The Quirky Layering Trend Zara's Really Behind

Zara's in-house stylists have slyly released a fashion memo via the new-in section on the site: Right now you really, really, really need to buy a see-through, semi-opaque or tulle dress and layer it over jeans.

This grunge-era styling throwback has been bubbling on the streets for some time (leading fashion blogger Susie Bubble has long been at the forefront of such complex layering), but now it's hitting more mainstream echelons and, we have to admit, on in-between-weather days such as this, the idea strikes the right note.

So this is what our American fashion pals would call your "third piece"—the unexpected item (outside of your accessories) that elevates the ordinary wardrobe basics already lounging happily in your closet. By slipping on a sheer slip or tunic over your existing denim and jersey tees you instantly have a more directional version of a day-to-day outfit. Fresh for festivals and a fun mix-up for the office.
