The 20 Zara Buys Our Editor Thinks Look Most Expensive

As much as I enjoy a designer splurge, there's nothing more satisfying than buying something from the high street and smugly debunking the myth that special items can only be bought with special budgets. Plus, both types of purchases are extremely satisfying.

We recently sourced top tips from some insiders (read up on how the likes of actual Zara staff, Millie Mackintosh and stylists hit up the store), but I've been thinking about what motivates me when I touch down in the Spanish superstore. How to shop at Zara? For me, it's all about ignoring the flashy, key new-season buys you'll see when you first walk in—i.e. the printed dresses that, although gorgeous, will likely end up in your best friend's closet and on four other people at the same wedding.

Instead, I always aim to seek out simpler, more alternative pieces that have interesting, luxe-looking details. If you can find a jacket with interesting pattern-cutting or a pair of trousers made from linen and dyed in a less-than-obvious colourway (right now: claret), you'll be on track for a winning Zara investment. But that all sounds like hard work, right? So I've done the searching for you—these are the 20 pieces I believe look most expensive in Zara right now. Shop away!
