8 Styling Tricks That Will Make Your Winter Outfits Look More Expensive
When the temperature drops all I want to do is wrap up in all the cosy cashmere and embrace the layers. And if I'm being honest, when it's bitterly cold, it can be tricky to keep up the polished look we're all eternally striving for, right? If you're feeling the same then fear not, I've done the work for you and scoured the internet for the 8 winter styling ideas that will elevate your cold-weather looks and make your 'fits just that bit chicer. What's not to love?

With over 15 years experience as a fashion stylist, tips and tricks are something I have a few (I.E lots) of. Whether you're looking for easy winter weekend dressing ideas or the latest cosy combo I can't stop wearing under my winter coat, I've got you covered.
Read on for my favourite 8 styling tricks to keep you looking chic all winter long, as well the pieces you may need to recreate the looks (although I am sure these are all regular staples in our wardrobes already). Enjoy!
1. TIE A SWEATER OVER YOUR SHOULDERS
Style Notes: All our favourite influencers including Hannah have been throwing their jumpers over their shoulders for a while now and we are here for it. Ideally you want it to be cosy enough to wrap around and act scarf-like, so consider opting for a super soft material like mohair.
Shop the look:
I'm a big fan of the Samba style, as is everyone else it seems!
2. TRY TONAL LAYERING
Style Notes: Neutral tones might just be my favourite shades to wear in winter. The trick to making your outfit look more expensive here is to stick to hues that are from the same colour family. Mix up your textures by teaming cashmere and wool for extra style points.
Shop the look:
COS's cashmere always washes really well. Yes, it's an investment but you can also wear your favourite cotton or jersey hoodie as part of this trick. There are no rules!
3. LAYER YOUR QUILTED JACKET UNDER YOUR COAT
Style Notes: I swear this styling trick is what gets me through winter. It's all about the sleek layers with this one, so try wearing a slim fitting option like this Uniqlo jacket under your coat for a really flattering silhouette. Just add chunky lug soled boots for an easy weekend outfit.
Shop the look:
4. WEAR A SHIRT AND OVERCOAT OVER A ROLL NECK
Style Notes: An ideal option when you want to stay warm but look polished, say hello to the black roll neck layered under your shirt. It just looks effortlessly chic in my books. Who's with me?
Shop the look:
I've never wanted a pinstripe coat so much. This has gone straight on the capsule wardrobe wish list.
This slim fit silhouette should be on your radar if you're a fan of a roll neck.
5. WEAR SHEER TIGHTS UNDER YOUR JEANS
Style Notes: This styling trick is so simple yet so chic. Note how a frayed denim jean is cropped enough to allow the sheer tights and slingback combo to be seen under your jeans. It's an easy evening outfit that looks good and keeps you warm. Win, win!
Shop the look:
I have these and can confirm they are the perfect denier.
The classic blue wash on this pair make these look so much more expensive than they are.
6. STYLE A CREAM ROLL NECK UNDER A SWEATER OR DRESS
Style Notes: Get ready, more layering ideas coming your way. There's something so chic about a cream roll neck layered under everything from knits to midi dresses, like Rachel above. I'm a big fan.
Shop the look:
Faux fur trimmed coats feel really fresh right now.
This bag continues to sell out, get restocked and sell out again. And for good reason... Cool yet classic, it's just a dream.
7. ADD A MINIMAL BUT COSY SCARF
Style Notes: There's something so luxurious about a beautiful scarf. Stick to neutral hues like beige, grey or white for the most premium look.
Shop the look:
I always go to the men's department when buying knitwear for a relaxed look.
H&M rules when it comes to premium-looking accessories for reasonable prices.
8. WEAR A MINI SKIRT OVER JEANS
Style Notes: I've spotted this look on quite a few fashion people this season and I'm obsessed. It's all about the proportions here and to nail this fairly out-there layering look, ensure your top half is pared back and kept simple.
Shop the look:
Pleated skirts are surprisingly versatile. Style over trousers now but in the summer just add loafers and shirt.
