Grace Adler Is the Unsung Fashion Hero of '90s TV—These Outfits Prove It
If you were to ask people which '90s television character they'd most like to trade closets with, Carrie Bradshaw and Rachel Green would no doubt be the names you'd hear most, right? While I spent my early teens endlessly watching reruns of Friends (and dreaming of a career not unlike Ms Green's), I'd have to say there's another '90s character who has caught my attention of late…
Loud, sassy and overconfident about her singing abilities, Grace Adler might just be the unsung fashion hero of '90s TV. From office attire (which included patterned slip skirts, sweater sets and a whole lot of pearls) to casual looks featuring the most perfect vintage Levi's, Grace Adler's personal style certainly warrants a lot more attention than it has been given over the years.
The most surprising aspect of it all is how well the looks have aged, as many of her outfits feel just as relevant today as they did when first worn. In terms of styling, Grace was way ahead of the curve, wearing cropped cardigans unbuttoned at the bottom with straight-leg jeans and neutral-toned coordinated sets not unlike the ones which have sold out in Zara recently. Her looks are so good that I want to steal 13 of them ASAP.
Keep scrolling for 13 Grace Adler looks I'd happily wear today.
Grace Adler's Best Looks
Style Notes: Wrapping a pearl necklace around your wrist to create a stacked bracelet makes a very simple yet effective styling trick.
Style Notes: All I want to do is slow dance on a conference table while wearing a fringed skirt and matching tee.
Style Notes: Styling this shrunken cardi against a dark blue slip skirt is the fashion girl's way to do workwear.
Style Notes: An avid fan of the halterneck, this might be one of Adler's most iconic looks.
Style Notes: From the perfectly cut jeans to the sleeveless ribbed knit, this look is exactly what I want to wear on summer weekends.
Style Notes: The tuxedo dress has become exceedingly popular over the last few years, though let's be clear, Grace Adler wore it first.
Style Notes: When Katie Holmes wore a Khaite cardigan set in the summer last year, the high street responded by creating their own iterations. In fact, Zara's version looked extremely similar to the one worn here. How's that for timeless style?
Style Notes: Between the pearl-embellished top and the stacked pearl bracelet, this look is over-the-top in the best way possible.
Style Notes: Another weekend look I'd steal in a second. I'm now desperately searching the internet for a blue ruched sleeveless top.
Style Notes: A slip skirt and tee is a foolproof spring look I turn to time and time again. Grace elevates the outfit here with a patterned skirt and matching tonal top.
Style Notes: Another halterneck moment, this one coming covered in pink feathers. This is the statement top my wardrobe's been missing.
Style Notes: The styling here feels very 2020. Scroll through a few influencer Instagrams and I can almost guarantee you'll find several cardigans styled open at the bottom exactly like this.
Style Notes: I've never been brave enough to wear snake-print trousers, though this look just might have changed my mind.
