A new year is a time of new beginnings. A time to set intentions. And a time to check back in on where your astrological chart is taking you in the days and months ahead.
Lisa Donovan is an expert in all things astrology. Donovan started her career in digital, initially as an early adopter of YouTube and later as one of the co-founders of Maker Studios, a talent-focused technology and media company.
But Donovan was ready for a change. After a path of self-discovery and six years of hard work, she launched The Pattern, an astrology app that is meant to be accessible to all.
The goal of The Pattern is to guide and empower you to achieve a higher level of consciousness and acceptance of your authentic self by learning about your personality traits to understand how you relate to the world around you.

We spoke with Donovan right before the holidays to get her insights into where our astrological charts are headed in 2022, including the intense energies from December that will continue into the next few months, and so much more on the latest episode of Who What Wear With Hillary Kerr.

Coming out of 2021 going into 2022, on a macro level, what are we working with here?
The biggest thing happening on the macro level is our Saturn-Uranus Square, which a lot of you probably know about because it started in 2021. We had our exact in February and in June. We are going to have another exact square December 24.
What does that mean?
Saturn is rules, boundaries, blocks, restrictions. Uranus is freedom, exploration, wanting to break free. These two things are quite different and they're at a 90-degree angle. Meaning they're at a square, they're sort of a crisis in action.
What we think of there is a feeling of this restless desire to break free, to escape, to try new things, to be your most unique, independent self. At the exact same time, this feeling of complete restriction and boundaries and being unable to do it.
What's going on in the world, this makes a lot of sense. On a personal level, a lot of people I talk to—myself included—there's that feeling of wanting to break free, but also feeling restricted. So on Christmas Eve, we're gonna have another exact square. It doesn't get exact again in 2022, but it gets almost exact in October. We'd say that it's going to continue this year. That feeling of restlessness, but also that restriction.
It's not always an easy thing to balance, because if this is impacting you personally—meaning you have your Moon, your Venus, your Mars—then you might be feeling it a lot.
What's coming up in the second half of 2022?
We have the second eclipses (which I'd say are really powerful), and this last Saturn-Uranus. We're easing up on the Saturn-Uranus. That's going to happen in October. It's not quite exact, but that's the last phase of it. That feeling of being restricted, we should start to feel like we're breaking free of that.
That theme of the eclipse of control and holding on so tight and being so willful to just receiving, letting be, and enjoying. I'd say we're moving into this letting go, taking a deep breath.
Mars will finish his return, which was an Aries. Ideally, you're in a place where you know what you're committed to and you feel really good about it. Aries is like the protector and you feel committed to your noble cause. I'd say that's a big part of the end of the year. Finishing up that cycle.
