Sally's Wardrobe in When Harry Met Sally Is Incredibly 2018-Ready
When Harry Met Sally is one of my favourite films of all time, so it's fair to say I'm biased when I'm writing about it—not that it happens on the regular, but you know. Recently, after watching it for the 100th time on Netflix (go do that immediately if you've never seen it/just have a few spare hours on your hands), I spotted that Sally Albright's wardrobe is totally 2018-ready. The film was released in 1989 and is great for spotting late '80s and early '90s trends that are bubbling up through the fashion ranks today. So while it went through a period of looking dated, the wardrobe in the film now looks modern (again) and just right for the upcoming season. Keep scrolling to see five of the trends that Sally wears in the film you'll definitely want to copy.
#1: Cardigans
Style Notes: Cardigans were already getting during autumn 2017, and that trend is set to continue into 2018. Make like Sally and pair yours with a white shirt underneath for her take on a classic preppy outfit.
Key Buy:
#2: '80s jacket
Style Notes: While you can't see this look so clearly here, in the film (we know just the clip), Sally is wearing a classic '80s-style jacket. It's all about the shoulder pads, which is what you'll be thinking come 2018.
Key Buy:
Balenciaga has been doing the oversized shoulders for some time now. Best to invest stat.
#3: Corduroy
Style Notes: Corduroy made a comeback at the end of 2017 (much thanks to Prada's gorgeous take on it), which is why we know it's going to explode in 2018. A jacket à la Sally is the best way to try out this trend first.
Key Buy:
#4: Velvet
Style Notes: We know that '80s is going to be a big trend (again) coming into 2018, especially for spring. Kill two birds and opt for a velvet dress with big shoulders.
Key Buy:
#5: Basics
Style Notes: Basics are another big hitter for this coming season. Take Sally's tip of investing in a white roll neck. We'd like one in cashmere.
