For most of us, deciding what to wear to a wedding is tricky enough, but when said wedding is scheduled in September, things get a little more complicated. Unlike high summer nuptials where you can be fairly certain you won’t need a jacket (nor will you think twice about slipping into a pair of strappy sandals), September holds its own challenges.
What if it’s freezing? What if your floaty floral frock you bought months ago is now totally inappropriate for the showery forecast? More often than not, you and the other guests will enjoy a balmy ceremony, but to avoid the aforementioned dilemmas spoiling your nearest and dearest’s big day, we’ve got a helpful guide of dos and don’ts below.
Style Notes: We’re big fans of the classic wrap dress, and when styled with a supersize wide-brim hat and one or two fun accessories, this simple look is ideal for a September ceremony. Pile on the fine gold jewelry to complete the look.
Style Notes: It’s not all about dresses. We think your favorite summer midi skirt can work for occasion dressing when styled with a blouse and a pair of kitten-heel mules.
Style Notes: Worn without a smart tailored jacket, shorts could be considered a total no-no for a wedding, but we think this linen two-piece is a great way to approach the tricky transitional weather.
Style Notes: If it’s too warm for a jacket or full sleeves but your strappy sundress feels a little too bare, why not try a sleeveless midi dress? Choose a weighty fabric to beat the chill, and finish with slip-on flats and a pair of standout earrings.
Style Notes: A fit-and-flare dress will always be a winning option. Not only is this shape incredibly flattering to wear, but it’s also ideal if the weather cools. To soften the structured look, try adding a beaded bag and a pair of woven closed-toe heels.
If all else fails, just buy a great floral dress.
