Winter Is Coming—Here Are 7 Stylish Cold-Weather Outfits to Wear This November
There are a lot of things to love about living in the UK, but the unpredictable weather isn't one of them. Just when we got accustomed to the unfeasibly hot heatwave that was summer, a cold snap kicked in and treated us to a particularly chilly few weeks in October, followed by a crisp but sunny November. So what do you wear during autumn with fluctuating temperatures and an icy winter just around the corner? I think I may have found the answer.
Now is the time to wear all of the strong autumn looks you have left in your wardrobes, with a few extra cold-weather pieces layered in. Determined to make this the most stylish month of the season, I have searched high and low for fresh, new outfit inspiration in a bid to bring you an edit of the perfect outfits to wear for any occasion.
Whether you're looking for something easy to wear for date night, something polished for the office and post-work drinks or just an everyday casual look for the weekend, I've got you covered. Keep scrolling for seven outfits that are perfect to wear this November and beyond. They'll save you plenty of time getting ready in the morning.
1. PUFFER COAT + MINISKIRT + KNEE-HIGH BOOTS
Style Notes: Elevate the casual puffer with a mini skirt, tights, and elegant knee-high boots. You'll have yourself a fashionable and functional outfit that'll keep you looking cool and cosy all at once.
Shop the look:
Sure, black is versatile, but Arket have plenty of coloured puffer coats too.
As it gets cooler, we're swapping pleated minis for leather and wool fabrications.
If you've ever gotten fluffy, coloured mohair all over your black outfit from a shedding scarf, you'll appreciate these equally cosy nylon scarves.
A combination of the ideal heel height, soft suede and timeless knee-high style.
2. OVERSIZED BLAZER + JEANS + BALLET PUMPS
Style Notes: If you're in doubt, reach for a blazer. It's one of the few pieces in your wardrobe you can wear all year round and dress up or down. Right now, I'm taking tips from Reneta and wearing mine with jeans and pumps for the daytime and switching to mules for the evening.
Shop the look:
When it comes to tailoring trends this autumn and winter, bigger really is better.
I didn't realise just how much I loved button details until I saw these jeans.
If you saw this and thought it was designer, I wouldn't blame you.
Marks and Spencer's ballet flats have been tried, tested and approved by Who What Wear, so you know they're good.
3. FAUX-FUR COAT AND HAT + FLARED TROUSERS + ANKLE BOOTS
Style Notes: Even minimalists have to agree: One of the best things to come out of the Y2K revival has been the faux-fur hat. Less Pamela Anderson and little more Bella Hadid, the furry hat has garnered a lot of celeb fans over the last year, and it manages to turn even a simple outfit into a statement.
Shop the look:
Sorry, skinnies. Whether wide leg, extra long, straight leg, or flared, all of the best trouser trends this year are all about a looser ankle.
Rihanna, Bella and Emily Ratajkowski are just a few of the celebs snapped in Emma Brewin's cosy bucket hats.
I bought a pair of patent black ankle boots from Zara five years ago, and they still get compliments.
4. GILET + BRETON TOP + WIDE-LEG DENIM
Style Notes: We'll take any excuse to layer up. If you've ever left the house wearing a heavy wool coat, regretted it on the tube, but then desperately needed it again in the evening, this is a look for you. Rather than relying on a big coat for warmth, layer a warm gilet over a knit and tee that you can remove as necessary. You'll stay warm and look good without overheating.
Shop the look:
Striped knits are everywhere right now, but this chunky zip-up knit from Patou looks far cooler than the rest.
Technical outerwear brand Taion is new to the NET-A-PORTER website and well worth checking out.
Maybe it's the chunky sole, or maybe it's zip detail, but these boots have "winter" written all over them.
5. WINTER WHITES
Style Notes: Look away now if you're accident-prone because this is a look best kept far away from cups of coffee. Nothing looks more considered than head-to-toe colour, and arctic white is the freshest option for a dark and dreary season. The only thing we're willing to compromise on is the shoes. White clothes and mud just aren't compatible.
Shop the look:
It may be on the pricier end of what you'd usually spend on knitwear, but a timeless piece like a cream jumper goes with everything in your wardrobe, and you'll be wearing it for years to come.
On the days you'd rather not have left your duvet behind, you take it with you.
You've still got time to trade in your skinnies for a baggier, slouchier fit that is far cooler.
6. LEATHER TRENCH + TAILORED TROUSERS + LOAFERS
Style Notes: I'm adding this to my Pinterest board of "office looks." It's just the right amount of casual meets smart and cool meets clean and can go from the office to post-work drinks.
Shop the look:
The leather biker jacket I've been wearing consecutively for the last eight years is still at the back of my wardrobe. Right now, I'm all about leather trench coats and their sleek finish.
Not a fan of the high waist? & Other Stories' wide-leg trousers are designed to be low-slung.
I'd add a fluffy, mohair cardigan to this to keep the outfit extra cosy.
7. MAXI CAMEL COAT + WIDE-LEG TROUSERS + HEELS
Style Notes: After Kate Middleton stepped out in an all-camel look, it was confirmed that it might be the most expensive-looking colour there is. Sorry, black. When working in one colour, play with proportion and texture by swapping cropped trousers for a wide-leg pair or a jacket for a maxi coat, and introduce fluffy knits or accessories to keep it feeling fresh.
Shop the look:
It's a shopping miracle that this hasn't completely sold out yet. You'd better get it before it does.
These come in petite, regular and long, making them ideal trousers for those who typically struggle to find the right length.
If you've scrolled through Instagram lately, you will have seen that it's that time of year again—ACNE-scarf season.
If I never wear another pair of shoes again, I blame Reformation. This low heel height makes every pair of Roberta boots some of the comfiest on the high street, so no need to pull out your blister plasters.
