What to Wear on Every Type of Date
It’s Saturday afternoon, and suddenly the thought hits you: You haven’t even considered what you’re going to wear on your date tonight. Whether it’s a long-term beau or your latest tinder match, chances are you want to dress to impress. But sometimes the mere idea of date is enough to stress even the most artful dressers.
Not only do you want to look good, but it’s also important to wear something that feels good, no matter what type of date you’re going on. Never underestimate the power of comfort; nothing ruins a delicious meal like a constricting pair of too-tight pants (hoping that's not just a personal problem). Because it can be easy to overlook the practicality of a date-night outfit when your primary goal is to look cute, we’ve got some ideas for you that will feel just as good as they look, no matter what type of date you’re going on.
Dinner Date
Depending on the restaurant, this one can vary a bit, so make sure to dress more formal/ casual according to how lavish the venue is. Regardless of formality, it’s important to wear something that’s comfy to sit in. Those high-waisted mom jeans may not be the best option, especially if you’re planning on eating a lot. One bonus of a dinner date: It’s the perfect excuse to wear your favourite heels. Since you’ll be sitting, we say go bold with your shoe choice and opt for some fun pumps.
Movie Date
Granted, people don’t go to the movies as much anymore, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely written off as a date-night option. A little more casual, your focus when going on a movie date should be comfort. So wear your favourite jeans and a top you know you can rely on. There’s nothing worse than fussing with annoying straps or necklines all night, especially when you’re trying to pay attention to what’s happening on-screen. Another thing to keep in mind is the temperature. Movie theatres can get cold, so make sure to bring a light layer.
Going Out for drinks
Much like a dinner date, when you’re going out for drinks, consider the venue you’ll be visiting. Whether it’s a casual pub, or swanky cocktail bar, your outfit should reflect the atmosphere. We’re not saying you need to wear a cocktail dress when going for cocktails, but in all honesty, you could probably get away with it if you wanted. “Drinks” is a pretty vague date, so take advantage of the ambiguity and wear whatever makes you feel most confident. When you’re at a bar, no one knows whether you’ve come from a casual dinner or a black tie event, so it’s a sartorially free-zone.
Outdoor Date
If you’re going on a more active date like for a bike ride or beach day, choose something practical. Though your flashiest bikini may seem like a good option in theory, it may not once it comes untied in the ocean. Similarly, you’re probably better off staying away from skirts and dresses if sporty activities are involved. No one wants to be embarrassed on a date, so opt for something safer and dress the look up with fun accessories. Don't forget SPF!
Concert
First and foremost, wear comfortable shoes. You want to be able to dance your heart out without massive blisters the next day. If flirty dresses are you thing, choose one that is free-flowing enough that it won’t be constricting. Or, opt for jeans and a casual T-shirt. It can get warm with so many people packed together, so don’t wear anything like a heavy jacket. Don’t forget that concerts can be messy too; people spill drinks, so don’t bring your favourite designer bag… better safe than sorry.
