So what do the coolest metro residents pack on vacation?

We talked to Elizabeth von der Goltz, global buying director of Net-a-Porter, who just touched down after a chic long weekend away in Tulum, Mexico. What city pieces do you always bring along?

I always pack for the location, and I think everywhere has such a different vibe. Tulum always feels very bohemian but also luxe, so I opted for soft colors in organic gauze fabrics and natural materials for accessories.

What were you most excited to wear?

I packed my Carrie Forbes raffia slides, Carolina Santo Domingo raffia tote, and crinkled ramie.

And what about clothing?

A cotton-blend top and matching skirt from Zimmermann.

What's the number one item to bring on vacation this summer?

A fun one-piece and sunglasses are a must.

What's one thing every city girl packs on vacation/for the beach?

A lot of bikinis and bathing suits.

Any rules for daytime dressing on vacation?

Beach style should be natural and effortless. It shouldn't look like you're trying too hard since you're in the natural elements of the water, sun, and sand.

What's one thing to avoid when packing for vacation for vacation?

Too many shoes! You really need flip-flops and slides and flat sandals. You'll never wear the heels you pack, so just leave them at home.
