9 Things I Learned When a Kardashian Makeup Artist Overhauled My Routine
Makeup is my weakness. I've become an expert in skincare and perfumes. My nails and hair are always on point, but when it comes to makeup, I'm still learning the right products and techniques. I'm so madly in love with the clean-girl look, so I always keep my product use minimal and let my inner beauty shine through. Since I normally save most of my makeup for a night out, I haven't really taken the time to perfect my everyday look. With no idea where to start, I thought the best person to ask would be one of the professionals.
I've been admiring the Kardashians' makeup looks for years both on- and off-screen, as they always seem to find a way to express their love for glam. Wendi Miyake is a regular in the Kardashian household, most often glitzing up Kim, Khloé, and Kourtney Kardashian along with Kris Jenner, Madonna, and many more stylish celebrities. If they trust her with their faces and walk away looking that good, then I most certainly do too. I asked Miyake where to begin with my glowy summer makeup routine. She delivered an easy nine-step process I'll be repeating day in and out this season and beyond.
"Fresh, glowing skin starts with a good skincare routine. Augustinus Bader is a staple all year round, but especially during summer when I want a very glowy application. I like the Rich Cream moisturizer for all over the face, following with the face oil just on the high points."
I've heard so much hype about this moisturizer, which got me excited to finally try it. It's so hydrating and made for the perfect base for this look.
"Make sure to get a good SPF for the hot days in the sun to protect your skin and keep it looking bright all summer long. I like the EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46."
There's a reason every beauty girl has multiple tubes of this SPF in her drawer. Doctor's orders.
"Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin is one of my new favorite foundations for beautiful, glowing skin. A little goes a long way with this product. Start in the center and work your way outwards."
I've never had a foundation that smelled so good. The scent of cinnamon floats through the air, taking the term "baking" to a whole new level.
"For a fresh, light concealer, I like Ilia's True Skin Serum. A little under the eyes and just in the areas that need any extra coverage. This combo will make your skin look like skin, but better."
"Continuing with cream products to keep it looking fresh, add a pop of liquid blush on the apples of your cheeks for a little flush. I like Rare Beauty's Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. It's highly pigmented, so just a little with your fingers will give you that sun-kissed look."
This shade ended up being the perfect finish. Whenever I wear this blush, it lasts all day, which is hard to find.
"For the glow, I like to use the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand liquid highlighter on the high points of the face before the foundation to get the luminous look from within. Blend it into your skin using your fingers to really melt it in so that, when you apply your foundation, it stays put."
I can't believe I'm only just now hearing of this highlighter. I've never seen a better glow.
"Pop some waterproof mascara on to ensure no transferring to open up the eyes with one of my favs from YSL—the Volume Effet Faux waterproof mascara."
Volume is right. This mascara only took a few swipes to give me the perfect lash. Unlike many other waterproof mascaras that I've tried, it came off very easily when I applied makeup remover.
"Lastly, do some precision powder in the areas that need it—usually the T-zone of the face and a little under the eyes using a good translucent powder like Hourglass Veil Translucent."
The first encounter with a viral beauty product is always wonderful. I see now why people can't get enough of this Hourglass translucent powder. It made such a difference when finishing off my look.
"Before you walk out the door, hit just the high points of the face with Tatcha's Dewy spray to finish your glowing look, and you are ready for summer."
Nothing feels better than a face mist, and this one is divine. The glow was real for hours after I applied it.

I can't stop raving about how good this blush is. The shade is the perfect berry color, and I am always getting so many compliments on it.
An extra glow comes along with this primer that includes AHAs. When you take your makeup off, your skin will still look amazing.
I've never seen a prettier bronzer both on and off the face.
I've never talked about a lip product more than I rave about this U Beauty lip balm. I apply it religiously every day, and it makes for the perfect pout.
My friend described this to me as being "like glue" and cementing in your makeup. I had to try it immediately, and it turns out she's not wrong.
This is one of my all-time favorite mascaras to arrive on the scene. A natural lift to the lash is an absolute must-have.
I love a natural glow, and this foundation doesn't look like you're wearing anything at all. A little goes a long way.
One of my favorite bases when applying my foundation just so happens to be this serum. It adds a very subtle glisten to the finished look.
