The Perfect Outfit Always Starts With This One Essential

I have dozens of stylish co-workers, but our senior fashion editor, Kristen Nichols, has a specific style that I particularly admire. She's classic, elevated, and just looks super polished all the time. I'm building out my capsule wardrobe for the year, and I realized that, since she's just one Slack message away, I might as well ask her for advice. Her secret to a put-together look? MONDAY

"I live in Los Angeles, so hiking is something I do a lot. I like to start out my week with an early-morning hike at the city's most famous spot: Runyon. While I want what I'm wearing to be functional, I also want to wear something that feels on-trend. (And a sports bra paired with sweatpants is L.A.'s #1 off-duty look.) Most of the sports bras I own are from activewear brands, but this style from Wacoal prioritizes bust shape since it comes in my actual bra size to ensure the perfect fit. TUESDAY

"I can't get enough of chic pantsuits, and I'm a firm believer that they work for nearly every occasion. The true trick to pulling them off? A great top and heels that make them feel fashion-forward as opposed to corporate. This bra worked perfectly with this top because it looked seamless and smooth under the tank. I couldn't even tell it had underwire—it was so comfortable!"

THURSDAY

"Nothing tops this look for a work meeting. The split-hem leggings are effortlessly elevated with the easy addition of the structured blazer. Because this blazer is pretty fitted, I was looking for something that would offer support without any added volume—and this bra couldn't have been a better fit. And to be honest, while this bra is the perfect piece to wear under this blazer, it's also the ultimate pretty item to wear any chance I get. Trust me."

FRIDAY

"A knit tank and pleated skirt paired with sharp slingbacks? My ideal date-night look. I'm wearing the same T-shirt bra as I was on Wednesday (it's worth having multiple in your drawers) because the thin straps on this bra make it an ideal style to swap in when I might normally go for something strapless. (I'm all for more support.) By the end of the week, I usually have a few social outings penciled in. I tend to keep my outfits sleek and easy, so a bra that can hide underneath a tank top is just what I'm looking for."
