Victoria Beckham, You Make Perfect Leggings and Flats
Welcome to Runway Matters, where we're delivering notes straight from the runway so you can quickly digest the most important trends and noteworthy moments from the F/W 18 shows.
When you walk into a Victoria Beckham show, you know you’re going to experience something special and out of the ordinary. She is one of the most famous fashion powerhouses in the world, after all. But don’t let that fame fool you—the design cred is all there. For her 10-year anniversary show (I know, can’t believe it), VB didn’t hold back, and that started with her magical venue, the James Burden mansion on the Upper East Side (a new location for her).
As I entered the palatial estate, I couldn’t help but gaze at all of the property’s intricate architecture and artwork—that is, until David Beckham walked in front of me (and stared at me for a total of .5 seconds). I easily could’ve just called it a day at that moment, but don’t worry, I knew I was there to witness the genius that is Victoria Beckham. While it’s difficult to narrow down every single highlight from the show, I tried with four of my standout moments below.
The Show Summed Up in Three Looks
I adored Victoria’s take on tailoring—with her military-inspired fabrics and cuts, complete with luxurious and unique details like leather belts, dickeys, and furry accents. This utilitarian vibe permeated the entire collection.
The Trend That’s Here to Stay: Stirrup Leggings
Those stirrup leggings you tested out last season? Hold onto them and pair them with kitten heels or flats—very VB F/W 18.
The Signature Shoe: Pointed-Toe Flats
Almost every look (aside from a few low-heel options) featured a variation of a square-toe flat, complete with an oversize buckle. I love that you can pair them with anything—trousers, leggings, and dresses—and they just work.
The Moment When Everyone Took Out Their Phones
Victoria walking down the runway for her bow is reason enough to snap—but when she walked over to her family to kiss them all, well, that’s just a recipe for mayhem (or the best IG content, at least).
