There's Cult Fashion Club Forming for This £280 T-Shirt
First, it was Gucci’s white style with its green-and-red stripes and interlocking double-G crest. Then it was Dior’s ode to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie emblazoned with “We Should All Be Feminists.” Now the latest designer T-shirt coming to an Instagram feed near you is from (drumroll, please) Versace—and it’s already selling fast.
The T-shirt in question comes in five colours and features a Versace logo spreadeagled across the chest: so far, so predictable. What makes this tee so special is that its logo (Avant-Garde Light, in case you’re interested) is mined from the ’80s, aka the height of Gianni Versace’s heyday. And unless you’ve been hiding under a rock recently, you’ll know that this year Gianni Versace is once again the name on everybody’s lips.
This is partly thanks to American Crime Story’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace, a nine-part drama that follows the events before and after the day the designer was shot on the doorstep of his Miami Beach mansion in 1997.
It’s also down to the label’s raved-about S/S 18 collection, which Donatella Versace designed to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her brother’s death. The glam-packed show featured 12 archive prints and a finale that saw five supermodels, including Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell, take to the runway in gold chainmail dresses to mimic a 1994 Versace ad.
Back to the T-shirt. A roster of fashion’s most fabulous are already wearing it, including Lady Gaga, Chiara Ferragni, Laura Brown and the modelling world’s latest one-name-wonder, Faretta. Buy yours for £280 from BrownsFashion.com or MyTheresa.com, but be quick—only a few sizes remain. Scroll down to see how influencers are styling Versace’s logo tee.
Los Angeles–based blogger Shea Marie accessorises hers with pink and more pink—plus a cup of tea.
Aida Domenech works high-low style by matching her Versace tee with an ASOS trouser suit.
“When this T-shirt came down the runway, I wanted it like a kid wants cotton candy,” says InStyle’s editor in chief, Laura Brown.
Go all-out ’80s with a power blazer, oversized earrings and slingbacks like Danielle Bernstein did.
Okay, Felicia Akerstrom confirms it for us—the pink version is our favourite.
