These 3 Current Shoe Trends Are So Diana Circa 1993
Many of the biggest icons of the '90s and '00s are being analysed once more by fashion editors across the globe: Carrie Bradshaw's most recognisable looks feel current again, for example, and there's clearly a renewed interest in the wardrobe of the late Princess Diana. We've enjoyed rediscovering Diana's many looks for Wimbledon or Ascot, and revisiting the wonder of her wedding dress, and with all of the hours of image research we're putting in, it's clear to see there's another correlation between 2018's fashion outlook and Diana's elegant outfits.
Her shoe choices in particular have come full circle. Not so long ago, kitten heels, slingbacks and other epoch-defining details of '90s footwear were decidedly out. Now, when you look to Instagram's hippest influencers and to the brands we most commonly follow into new-trend territory (hi, Ganni) these references are au courant once more. Fashion insiders predicted it early when the resurgence of Manolo Blahnik's spindly stilettos or jewel-fronted mules kicked in, but the trend has now filtered through to the high street, with brands such as & Other Stories stocking the kind of strappy disco sandals we all bought decades ago.
Keep reading to see how Diana wore and styled these shoe trends first, and shop the new-in pieces to get the look today.
Baby-blue satin is obviously the ultimate option, but any fancy kitten-heel slingbacks will make us happy right now.

Sassy lilac suit? Check. Pearls? Check. Contrast-toe pumps? Check.
Okay, a) we hadn't seen this dress before on Lady Di, but also b) just look at how 2018 those strappy little evening pumps are. Back in the day, Diana wore Jimmy Choo on repeat, and the designer does a similarly elegant style today.
