11 Party Trends Instagram's Best-Dressed Are Already Wearing
Who's ready to party? Some might think it too early to begin discussing party season and all the fanciful fashion that comes with it, but if my 12-year-long career in the fashion industry has taught me anything, it's that the best party pieces sell out fast. In fact, I spotted a midnight-blue velvet minidress complete with a beautifully fitted bodice and full skirt just a few days before the end of October, and when I went to buy it after being paid on November 1, it was gone. Lesson learnt. I hope you, too, learn from this experience—life is too short to let excellent clothes pass you by.
In honour of the velvet dress that never was, I've poured my energy into unearthing—by way of Instagram—the best party trends of 2022, handpicking fabulous pieces for you so you won't miss out on your dream dance-floor look. From the skirt trend that dominated Fashion Month that's now trickling into bars near you to the accessories you can use to elevate your jeans and other wardrobe basics, scroll on to see the 11 partywear trends and moments this editor is obsessed with.
1. Sequin Maxis
Style Notes: While sparkly minidresses make a comeback every party season, brands are taking their cues from the runways by embracing shimmering maxi silhouettes. Seek out gemstone hues for even more party appeal.
Shop the Trend:
There's something so chic about long-sleeve dresses.
2. Luxe Leggings
Style Notes: If going out in your leggings sounds like the dream, make it your reality with one of the many, many party leggings on the market. From rhinestones to liquid-like finishes, there's no shortage of them.
Shop the Trend:
Look closely and you'll see these slit-hem leggings are adorned with tiny rhinestones.
3. Rhinestone Sparkle
Style Notes: If there's one word that sums up 2022's party trends, it's rhinestones. Adorning everything from trousers (see above) to dresses, almost every garment has been given a dusting of them this season. Shoes and bags, however, seem to be the most in demand of the lot.
Shop the Trend:
Rhinestone slingback shoes have already sold out at Arket, Mango and & Other Stories. I have a feeling history will repeat itself.
4. Bow Earrings
Style Notes: Bows are always big on the accessory scene, but they usually crop up by way of bags, shoes and even hairbands. For party season, however, the prettiest way to wear your bows is in the form of earrings.
Shop the Trend:
If you have the budget, invest in the brand that started the trend: Jennifer Behr.
I wore these recently and received so many compliments on them.
5. Sheer Skirting
Style Notes: Regardless of the city, Prada's sheer skirts were everywhere you looked during Fashion Month. Now, influencers and editors are beginning to re-wear theirs for parties. Distinctly '90s, just add kitten-heel slingbacks and a white vest to complete the throwback moment.
Shop the Trend:
This skirt is practically a status symbol.
6. Bandeau Necklines
Style Notes: Although they never really go out of style, it would be fair to say that strapless or bandeau necklines haven't been as predominant as other styles over the past few seasons. But that's all about to change, as some of the sleekest party dresses on the market all boast a full view of the décolletage.
Shop the Trend:
The back of this dress features shirring which holds it up, so you could easily tuck the straps in on this beauty to give it the feel bandeau treatment.
7. Pink
Style Notes: Pink was big news on the autumn/winter 2022 runways (Valentino, anyone?) and it would appear to have serious staying power as we edge into party season, too. How is it that I've never noticed how downright fabulous bubblegum-pink sequins are?
Shop the Trend:
This is crying out to be worn with metallic platforms.
8. Haute Hosiery
Style Notes: Whether you're a cold girl like me or are looking for a way to elevate the little black dress that's already hanging in your wardrobe, fashion's latest drop of party-ready tights is the answer.
Shop the Trend:
9. Fabulous Feathers
Style Notes: You'll be hard-pressed to find a party trend that's more fabulous than feathers. Brands like Taller Marmo and 16Arlington have put embellishments on the map in recent years. Joy-inducing from the moment you slip them on, there's no way you won't enjoy your night when you're wearing one of these frocks.
Shop the Trend:
This shade of emerald green is the One.
Sequins and feathers? Warehouse is truly spoiling us.
10. Bras and Suits
Style Notes: If dresses aren't your thing, why not dust off the suiting I'm willing to bet you already own and give it a party spin with the addition of a bra top? Bettina's ruffled moment is a fun one to re-create, or you could go slinky with a satin bralette.
Shop the Trend:
11. Transparent Trousers
Style Notes: If you were to ask me six months ago if I'd ever consider wearing see-through trousers, I'd have probably said no. Now, however, thanks to the addition of rhinestones and sparkle, that's all changed. Add an oversize blazer, just like Danielle or, for a low-key spin, try a statement knit.
Shop the Trend:
This trend keeps selling out on the high street, but there's plenty of options from independents on Etsy.
