The Most Searched-For Halloween Costumes of 2018 Are So Random
September is still in that seasonal limbo between the end of summer and beginning of fall, but once the calendar flips over into October, there's no turning back from sweaters, pumpkin-flavored everything, and the best fashion holiday: Halloween. So what will everyone be dressing up as next month? Pinterest and Lyst have analysed search data from millions of users to come up with their predictions for the most popular Halloween costumes.
Topping the list is Tonya Harding, surely thanks to Margot Robbie's much-buzzed-about role in the film I, Tonya. "Pinterest has seen a 720% increase in searches for the ice skating icon, and Lyst data shows skater skirts and bejewelled leotards have been trending worldwide this year," the companies explained in a press release. "Essential to getting the Tonya look, there has been a 43% increase in searches for scrunchies on Lyst since August." Scroll down to see the top seven most popular Halloween costumes this year, according to Pinterest and Lyst.
Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
