It's a Boy! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex Announce Arrival of the Royal Baby
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have just announced the arrival of their first child, a baby boy. "We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz," they said in an announcement on their official Instagram page.
"The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days," continued the statement.
Prince Harry was interviewed this afternoon at Windsor and said of the birth, "It has been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined. How any women does what they do is beyond comprehension, but we are both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support of everybody out there.” He added: "As every parent and father will say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for, so I'm over the moon."
As for names, he said they haven't decided yet: "We are still thinking about names—the baby is a little overdue, so we’ve had some time to think about it."
The royal couple has decided to keep their birth as private as possible and avoided doing a press moment on the steps together of the Lindo Wing like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have with their three children. The Sussexes said they would be "celebrating privately as a new family" after the birth, and they will release photographs of the baby in the days following, rather than introducing the world to their baby in front of crowds of royal fans and the world's media. Prince Harry said at the end of his interview: "For us, we’ll be seeing you in two days time as a family, to be able to share it with you, so everyone can see the baby."
The couple first announced Markle's pregnancy on October 15, shortly before their much-publicized tour of Australia and New Zealand. "Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public," the Instagram post read at the time. Since then, Markle has kept a busy schedule, flying everywhere from New York City to Morocco during her pregnancy.
