Don't call it a comeback, but Kate Middleton's return from maternity leave has proven to be well worth the wait from a fashion perspective. She already reminded us of she's the OG when it comes to rewearing clothes like a pro (this lilac Emilia Wickstead look proves it), and now we've got our eyes on the perfect autumn shoe trend she wore during a night at the museum… one that could be attributed to her new pal-in-the-palace, Meghan Markle.

Attending an event at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (where she serves as a patron), Middleton was all about new-season fabrics in her checked Erdem dress and velvet Jimmy Choo shoes. The eagle-eyed/royal fanatics out there will recall that Meghan first brought velvet courts into regal circles when she chose a pair of rust-coloured Manolo Blahniks to wear with a green skirt and oatmeal wrap coat back in March 2017. I wonder they go shoe-shopping together?

Anyway, velvet pumps are one of my favourite trends of the season, and luckily, there are tons of designers offering versions in every colour of the rainbow. From more afforable iterations to investment-worthy Christian Louboutins, scroll down to shop the trend in every colour.

Associate Director, Fashion News

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
