Parisian Girls Approve of These 4 Swim Trends
After a very long and painful winter in Paris, summer is finally around the corner, and with the heat wave comes new wonderings: Which swimwear trend should I adopt this season? Personally, I’ve been addicted to swimwear trends my whole life, with a tendency (which is not super French, I have to admit) to follow them a little blindly and carelessly. But years passing and my body changing brought me to ask myself the following question: Is it really reasonable to give in to every single Instagram trend when it comes to swimwear? Here are some thoughts and my swimsuit picks for summer.
Stick to the classics
It’s true there are some very cool brands that came through thanks to Instagram (and I’m the first to wear them), but I believe that when it comes to swimwear, it’s good to always have a classic or two in your luggage. For instance, in France, Eres is the classic brand that women have been wearing for generations. Now, I know the pieces are pricey, but at the same time, they are totally worth it and are the quintessence of classic French chic. Of course, no one has to rob a bank to get a suit, and there are affordable alternatives, such as the below one-piece from Arket, that we could also consider classic and timeless.
Basics are good too
Another brand that I’ve been in love with is Matteau Swim. I’ve been following it since the very beginning, and what I love is that it provides good options for a lot of body types. In my case, I lost quite a few pounds between last summer and this year, and yet the suits still fit me like a glove. Which brings me to my next point: Crochet bikinis and other Instagram-friendly trends are cool, but nothing beats dressing for your body type. Also, what’s more French-chic than that?
Classic prints and vintage shapes never go out of style
I couldn't address this topic without including a bit of cliché, right? Whenever I’m bored of basics, I like to try to copy Bardot (groundbreaking) and wear some printed suits. And not just any prints: Polka dots (duh), gingham, and vintage flowery prints are my go-tos.
Play it like Macpherson
Aka The Body. There’s no better time than summer to have a little fun. To me, Hunza G (another cool “Insta brand”) embodies this perfectly, and whenever I come across one of its beautifully art directed photos, I think of Elle Macpherson, of course, but also of Stephanie de Monaco (for those who don’t know her, I encourage you to Google her). The whole vibe just reminds me of the ’80s, a time when showing a curvier figure was the norm.
