I'm a Brit Living in Paris —21 French-Inspired Items Making Up My 2024 Capsule Wardrobe
I've considered myself a Francophile for a long while and have studied the nuances of French style with a fine tooth comb, yet since moving to Paris I've honed in on the pieces that constitute a French-inspired wardrobe and the changes per season. At Who What Wear, we're vehemently championing the wardrobes of French women and it's because it boasts a timelessness that's hugely aspirational, particularly as attitudes towards shopping are evolving and people are starting to consider versatility. Paired back and unwavering — a French woman's capsule wardrobe is a firm starting point for a considered and wearable wardrobe. As we begin to consider dressing for spring and summer, transitional pieces are taking precedence and we're optimistically reintroducing natural fabrications, jute bags, thigh-skimming styles and canvas trainers into the fold. The options (although refined) boast a playful element and we're being reacquainted with styles that are best attributed to French style. Take a peak at the pieces wish are high on my wish list for this spring and beyond.

Oval shape sunglasses are a much loved shape here.
Polène's take on the French-style basket bag comprises a leather trim and its signature embossing.
Note the smart styling tip with the waist tie on the shoulder strap! It turns a simple tank dress into something more fashion forward.
French women don bold accessories (namely earrings) with refined ensembles.
The type of black midi dress French women live in during spring and summer.
Tammy & Benjamin is an independent French brand to have on your radar.
I'm obsessed with the voguish Grecian style ruching. It may be a trend-inspired piece but it had longevity.
Straight-leg jeans are a wardrobe favourite of many, however wide-leg jeans paired with a streamlined t-shirt or bodysuit make for a refined and transitional outfit pairing.
COS is becoming renown for longline tailored pieces. Last season they released a similar style that was a favourite of many WWW editors. I have a feeling this skirt is set to follow suit.
Balzac Paris' new collection is ever so sleek. Their collection comprises many jolly pieces but I can't help but adore the square cut and simple embossing on this tank top.
This linen skirt comes in a few colours, but the red feels like the only choice for 2024.
The scarf detail has been inherited by French women and for spring and summer it's made its way onto mini frocks.
Jonak is best known for French footwear staples. Case in point — pointed kitten heels (with a silver buckle, no less)
French Sartorialist Jeanne Damas has partnered with Dragon Diffusion, resulting in this daring reddish woven piece. As the owner of a Dragon Diffusion bag, I can attest to the quality and wearability.
French favourite Sézane has treated us to capsule collections pertaining to Italian style for the past month but most exciting of all is the restocking of the Clyde trench (one of the most coveted trench coats). I doubt it'll stay around for long!
A taught bodice and exaggerated sleeves makes for the perfect pretty summer dress.
I've owned the sleeved version and I'm still in awe of the silhouette. The waist panel creates beautiful movement in the skirt.
A summer mini on the high street comprising natural fabrications. I'm impressed!
You can't forget an easy pair of white sneakers you can add to most outfits!
