This Ankle Boot Trend Is Going to Be Everywhere in 6 Months
Before you put away your ankle boots for good as we embark into the season of strappy sandals, mules and lightweight sneakers, I want to bring your attention to a new ankle boot trend that was so prominent in the A/W 2019 collections that I simply couldn't wait to write about it. Much like hiking boots that dominated earlier this year, these are on the chunky side. After all, as an editor, the heaviest-hitting trends are the ones I notice right off the bat due to their ingenuity and positioning. This season, one of those was heavy rubber-soled ankle boots.
These are different than platforms and certainly a world away from your run-of-the-mill block heels. Instead, this particular ankle boot trend is defined by its chunky rubber sole. This detailing will be found on all kinds of boot styles, from Chelsea to hiking boots. After seeing hundreds of previews of the collections for next autumn—and already spotting these on the feet of those ahead of the trends—I'm certain that this ankle boot trend will be everywhere in just six months' time.
On the Catwalk:
This dominating shoe trend was hard to miss on the A/W 19 runways thanks to the large-and-in-charge rubbery soles. We saw designers like Burberry and Alexander McQueen create these stompers, which accompanied everything from flouncy dresses to skirt suits.
In Other Autumn Collections:
Post–fashion month, we editors take to the streets once again for dozens of showroom appointments, where we get an up-close-and-personal look at the A/W 19 collections. After seeing these boots pop up in almost identical form at lots of appointments, I knew this trend was one we needed to document.
On Instagram:
Influencers have already started wearing the trend, and although the detailing of the heavy rubber isn't identical, it's the vibe that counts, ultimately giving us further proof that this ankle boot trend is one that will take off.
Boots You Can Shop Now:
As I touched on before, since this is an autumn trend, there are currently limited products available. Some of you might want to wait until those exact Ganni boots are available in six months, but others might be tempted by the other versions that are already available. (Could be one for those headed to Glastonbury.)
