These 7 Street Style Trends Are the Talk of Copenhagen Right Now

Until this year, I admired Copenhagen Fashion Week from afar by clicking through every catwalk photo and ogling street style outfits. Now that I'm back at the Danish capital's fashion week for the second time in 2019, I can confirm that it's even more fun and inspiring than it looks online. Yep, everyone really is thrilled to be here—not a soul is faking a smile for the 'gram. (Follow along on my Instagram for behind-the-scenes proof.)

As far as the street style in Copenhagen is concerned, anything goes—and I mean anything. Some people opt for designer bags while others go for label-less vintage pieces. Some dress to the nines while others put fresh spins on jeans and T-shirts. I'm far from the only person who thinks the trip to Copenhagen is worth it. There's a healthy mix of editors, influencers, buyers, and everyone in between, all hoping to witness the tour de force that is Scandi fashion. And yes, they all look stylish en route to the shows.

1. Puffy Dresses

I've seen (and even worn) lots of fantastical dresses this week using tulle, organza and delicate embellishment—designers like Cecile Bahnsen and Ganni are leading the trend for these puffy princess frocks.

2. All White Outfits

You see a lot of bright, vibrant colours at Copenhagen, however this season I have noticed a lot of show-goers are wearing head-to-toe white, whether that's a shirt and trousers or an LBD.

3. Clutches

This season, everyone seems to be ditching their top-handle bags for oversize clutches—bonus points if it's the viral Bottega Veneta clutch, in particular.

4. Basics

Many show-goers this have season opted for minimalist outfits, usually centred on classic white tees or tailored trousers.

5. Printed Dresses

The Copenhagen look has centered around printed floral dresses for a long time, and this is still a Scandi staple this summer.

6. Short Suits

We can never say no to a good power suit, but Scandi girls are loving the abbreviated version of the trend—all the better to show off your new shoes.

7. Statement Sleeves

Yes, the statement sleeve lives on. Fresh versions this season include sheer organza sleeves and colorful bell sleeves.

Next up, four brands that were Scandi-girl secrets—until now

Associate Director, Fashion News

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
