When it comes to our facial skincare routines, we’re happy to dedicate a serious amount of time to make sure they’re thorough and effective. So why not extend the same courtesy to our hands and invest in a chic hand cream?

Of course, if you consider how our complexions are exposed to the elements all day, every day, it’s safe to assume that they need a little more TLC than the skin on the rest of our bodies, which is, for the most part, protected by our clothes.

But while the skin on our faces reaps the benefits of a meticulously curated regime packed with cleansers (necessary for removing daily buildup and excess oils), moisturisers (ideal for hydrating), and serums that target a range of concerns from skin sensitivity to redness, the remainder of our body can often fall to the wayside.

Can Hand Creams Help With Dry Skin?

Unsurprisingly but often forgotten, just like how external aggressors can force our skin into a panic, potentially resulting in dryness, breakouts and fine lines, the skin on our hands can also suffer.

And it’s not only the cold weather that can turn previously soft hands dry, cracked and sore. From hand soaps to cleaning products, the skin on our hands can react badly to many things throughout the day.

It’s imperative, therefore, that we do all we can to make sure we give our hands all the moisture they need to ensure skin remains soft, supple and comfortable. Why else tote the latest designer accessory, indulge in a stylish manicure or perfect your ring stack if not to show off this part of your anatomy?

Hand creams can certainly help revive dry skin—it's just a matter of selecting the one that suits your needs and price range the best.

What to Look for When Shopping for a Hand Cream

Yes, when it comes to priming your fingers and palms, hand creams offer more than just a luxurious coating of hydration. Improving skin with nourishing ingredients, creamy textures and fragrant scents is all in a day's work for this small but mighty beauty essential.

When choosing your hand cream, it's imperative to look out for ingredients that can soothe dryness and provide long-lasting hydration. Opting for a product rich in either vitamin E, hyaluronic acid and shea butter is a great starting point.

There is also, of course, the bonus decorative element. Hand creams make a charming addition to your work bag, going-out purse or even as a trinket for your bedside table, with a number of prestige beauty brands offering their own stylish and soothing balm.

How We Tested the Best Hand Creams

Long gone are the perils of applying greasy hand creams. There is little I hate more than the feeling of coated, slimy hands. Therefore, I have made it my mission to find some of the very best hand creams out there that don’t make me go "ick."

To do so, I put my dehydrated hands to work and road-tested the highly recommended hand creams, from drug store to designer, to determine which balm would come editor-approved.

If, like me, you dislike the feeling of slick hands, but hate dryness even more, keep scrolling for the definitive edit of the most sumptuous hand creams to shop now.
