Every Designer I Can Think of Wants Us to Wear These Shorts This Spring

Shorts aren't exactly a crowd-pleasing clothing item, but for spring 2020, every designer I can think of is enamoured with shorts, and it's the one trend I am certain will go far in 2020. I'm not talking denim hot pants, but longer Bermuda shorts that you could quite feasibly wear to the office. These have a high waistband, a wider baggy leg to the shorts and fall somewhere between the mid-calf and just above the knee. They are either to be worn as part of a suit, as seen at Max Mara and Chloé, or separately with a jumper or shirt, as seen at The Row and Bottega Veneta.

"Our clients not only purchase suits as all-in-one looks but also as separates—making this trend a key trans-seasonal look that offers even more options to layer and mix. Another highlight for next season is the sophisticated leather short," adds MyTheresa's Tiffany Hsu. Bermuda shorts might sound divisive, but this is an item that is set to translate, as Moda Operandi said it saw a 30% spike in shorts sales in its trunk show compared to S/S 19.

The street style set is so behind it that some brave people have already been wearing theirs in January. Hsu wore Bermuda shorts suit with a pair of knee-high boots, and Pernille has been wearing hers with a taupe blazer. Keep scrolling to see how to style Bermuda shorts, according to designers and the fashion set.
