Thigh-High Uggs Are Now a Thing, and the World Will Never Be the Same
Paris Fashion Week Men's is in full swing, and today saw the debut of the F/W 18 collection for Y/Project, the gender-fluid streetwear label that helped solidify the exaggeratedly oversize trend. The collection was in keeping with the brand's signature aesthetic, but it was the footwear that accompanied the clothes that's sure to have the fashion world buzzing long after today's presentation: Uggs.
Many designers have collaborated with "ugly" shoe brands in recent seasons (Christopher Kane and Balenciaga with Crocs and a new Rick Owens collaboration with Birkenstock, to name a few). And now, Y/Project has joined that growing list, thanks to its collaboration with Ugg. You can't argue with the fact that the main reason for wearing Uggs is comfort, and Y/Project capitalized on that to the extreme, with the standout shoe from the collaboration being a pair of baggy thigh-high suede boots that are clearly inspired by the brand's Classic Short shearling-lined boots. Y/Project's Creative Director Glenn Martens said of the collaboration, "By reworking the Classic boot with a typical Y/Project twist, such as the triple overlaps and the extra-long legs, we want to celebrate the UGG brand's unique history."
Styling the thigh-high boots may prove to be a challenge, so we're curious which members of the fashion crowd will be the first to take on that challenge. Stay tuned, and in the meantime, check out the aforementioned boots, along with other styles that made their runway debut today.
