Everyone who said 2024 will be the year you put yourself out there more, this one's for you. I'm also talking to those looking to spend more time off the couch and even the social butterflies trying to up their game when it comes to a killer night-out or party look. As editors, we all have our strengths, and mine is knowing the perfect thing to wear to virtually any occasion where a martini will be served that falls on a Friday or Saturday night (and probably a Thursday night too). This year, I'm looking forward to many weekends out and celebrations to fill my calendar, so I decided to start thinking about the chicest night-out trends for 2024.

Keep scrolling to see which night-out trends have my attention for the year ahead.

Hot Pants or No Pants

No pants, no problem. Many thought this trend would have left our closets even quicker than we purchased it, but they have been proven wrong. Season after season, It brands like Miu Miu and Alaïa debut hot pants and sparkly panties on the runway while It girls and stylists clamor over who can get their hands on them first. The key to pulling this outfit off is a great pair of sheer tights. While pumps aren't mandatory, they are highly encouraged. This outfit isn't one for those who don't like attention, as a pants-less look is guaranteed to draw looks in the best way. I'm heading to Aspen for the weekend, and I have a feeling I'll be giving this look a try.

Naked Dressing

It doesn't get much sexier than barely-there dressing. The favorite of '90s supermodels, Carrie Bradshaw, and yours truly is sticking around for 2024, and I couldn't be happier about it. Whether lace is your thing or you're more of a mesh person, the only category is sheer. Getting dressed is supposed to be fun, especially for a night out, and there's just something about the peekaboo vibe of a sheer outfit. I know that wearing basically nothing can be a little out of your comfort zone, but low lighting and layering will be your best friends. Just throw a blazer over your lace top or a pair of hot pants over a sheer catsuit to still experiment with sheer fabrics without feeling too exposed. This is perfect for a girls' night out or even a birthday outfit.

Back to Black

The year may be new, but in 2024, we are taking it back to the classics. The era of sleek, sophisticated black outfits for a night out is so back. The little black dress has been the night-out staple since its conception, and while an LBD is still loved in my book, this trend is taking it further than a minidress. Catsuits, matching sets, corsets, miniskirts, and trousers are all at your disposal to mix and match into the chicest combination possible. The key is to focus on silhouette and fit. After all, the color isn't really what's eye-catching about this look. It's a collection of stylish pieces all working together to make you look as good as possible. I'm obsessed with the way Indya styled her all-black outfit, mixing a classic bra top with a pleated miniskirt and topping it off with a moto jacket and sunnies. Who says black has to be boring?

RSVP: Sequins Preferred

I'm of the mind that sequins don't need an occasion. As long as you're bold enough, a sequin outfit can be just the thing your 2024 night-out wardrobe is missing. Maybe I'm just in the festive spirit of the New Year, but there is something about putting on sparkly clothing that really gets you in the mood to celebrate. This year, I'm focused on celebrating life all of the time, not just for big things. I wore this sequinned minidress to drinks in downtown Manhattan, and I have to say nothing pairs better with a sparkly minidress than a martini and a mini bag. This look is one to wear when you're trying a restaurant you've been on the wait list for or when you get a last-minute party invitation and feel like being the center of attention. If a full-sequin dress isn't your thing, opt for a sequin miniskirt. The Guizio one below resides in the closet of a few Who What Wear editors, myself included.

Red-Hot

Last year's favorite color is sticking around for 2024, especially for a night out or special occasion. Designers like Bottega Veneta and Ferragamo have been incorporating this bold hue into their collections, and it's working its way into the hearts, minds, and closets of the fashion set and celebrities alike. The sexy red dress has been the little sister to the little black dress, but this year, she's all grown up and ready to have her moment. While the red-hot trend isn't exclusive to dresses, I highly recommend adding it to your night-out rotation. There is something about wearing a red dress that ups your confidence and makes you feel a little sultry. I'm wearing this trend on a Saturday night out in New York.
