These 5 Topshop Runway Trends Were the Best
"Well, that was sassy," were the first words to escape my mouth upon the completion of Topshop's September 2017 runway show. It's because I'd just witnessed a slew of chiffon showgirl baby dolls strut their best stuff down a runway, thanks to the banging bods of Jourdan Dunn and Joan Smalls—if you're ever looking for the girls who can do such teeny-tiny dresses justice, it's them. But this section was just a portion of the '80s-tinged club night that appeared to be in full swing in the heart of Soho at 4 p.m. on a Sunday.
On Hailey Baldwin: Topshop Mohair Pea Coat (£165)
These slinky little dresses (undoubtedly coming into stores ahead of the party season so that you can be safe in the knowledge you'll be all set for the fun times) turned up in cute colours with even cuter tufts of marabou feathers, as well as a smattering of crystals. They were worn with—what else?—bling earrings, plus a pair of fishnet socks slipped into kitten-heeled mules.
On Jourdan Dunn: Topshop Moto Denim Miniskirt (£29) and High Front Mules (£69). On Joan Smalls: Topshop Ankle Boots (£95)
So yesteryear's boudoir style is coming to today's high street, but it wasn't all risqué, you know. The opening looks saw oversized coats play the leading role—we were particularly taken by those in leather or pink mohair, and even more so when they came in pink leather. And the finale provided a stream of models wearing motif tees with their names graffitied on the front, each worn with a different style of jeans, depending on their personal tastes.
Here the Who What Wear UK team charts the pieces and trends they will be buying into. So let's cut to the chase because some of the goods are filtering off the runway and straight into the stores.
Shop the look: Topshop Satin Sport Trousers in Bottle Green (£69)
"I love a pair of smart joggers and these were a slightly tighter fit, meaning I won't look slobbish whatsoever. I'd wear with a black blazer, white tee and black mules. For work or for a night out." — Elinor Block, assistant editor.
Shop the look: Topshop Pyramid Pouch in Pink (£42)
"I loved the tiny handbags the most. They were styled with every look, which showed how versatile the little evening bag can be—even if they're not the most practical, they are just so chic!" — Isabel Mundigo-Moore, associate social media editor.
"I'm a sucker for feathers every day of the year, whether they're in fashion or not. But lucky for me, they're everywhere right now. Whether ostrich and tasselled across Topshop's evening dresses or fluffy marabou coats, I am taking this textural fest home with me." — Hannah Almassi, editorial director.
Shop the look: Topshop Textured Blazer (£95) and Textured Trousers (£69)
"This fashion month, the street style has been all about the trouser suit, and colour-wise, yellow is poised to take over from pink. So this suit is a clear winner for me, as it ticks off these two trends in one. And it makes the perfect wedding guest outfit." — Emma Spedding, deputy editor.
