Did you know that the town is considered the birthplace of winter tourism? As the story goes, in 1864, hotelier Johannes Badrutt suggested that a group of British aristocrats visit St. Moritz in the winter, and if it wasn't just as enjoyable as their summer trips, he'd give them their money back. Needless to say, Badrutt won his wager, as the tourists were bowled over by St. Moritz's year-round sunny climate.
