Meet Tome: The Australian Design Duo Loved By Anna Wintour
“Relevant. Purity. Very essential.” These are the words that Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin of Tome used to describe their line when asked by Fashionista two years ago. “If a woman can’t make it a part of her life, then it’s audacious for us to suggest it.” But women are keen to make it a part of their lives—Anna Wintour included, who has sung the brand’s praises and selected the Australian duo as finalists for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2013.
Known for their minimal, utilitarian aesthetic, Tome’s designs are often associated with the “thinking woman”—someone who opts for a long read over Netflix, and isn’t afraid to shun conventional signs of femininity. Along with Wintour, the brand counts Jenna Lyons and Sarah Jessica Parker as fans, but they’re not just looking to celebrities.
“Our philosophy is [to design for] ‘every woman,’” designers Lobo and Martin tell us. “There are many icons, artists and friends that help define the brand’s aesthetic.” And it shows in their versatile collections, which always deliver a little something for everyone.
