10 Classic Pieces Every Tomboy Wears Religiously
To celebrate the launch of new site TOMBOY Beauty today, we spoke to founder and editor, Chloe Brinklow about her less is more approach to style and beauty.
“Tomboy style is about mixing feminine ease with masculine edge. I look for easy-to-wear pieces, in quality fabrications that can be worn over and over again.”
Australia’s climate and relaxed energy lends itself to this style of dressing so easily, and unless you work in a really corporate environment, you can almost get away with dressing in distressed denim, leather and soft tees, every day of the week.
Keep scrolling to shop the ten pieces every Australian girl with tomboy style wears religiously.
Slip Dress
“The LBD has been replaced by the LBSD, 'S' for slip. I pair it was my Stan Smiths, my hair in a low bun and if I am feeling fancy, a red lip.”
T-Shirts
“I live T-shirts and cashmere from Jac + Jack—nothing says ‘I’m not trying!" like a crisp white tee.”
Slides
“I’ve got a couple of dressier versions, but these always win. One of my roommate's conquests, left them at my front door, and I swiftly claimed them as my own. I wear with skinny blue jeans or denim cut-offs. I think they make my legs look longer, if that’s possible?”
Denim Jacket
“A denim jacket around the waist of my aforementioned black slip dress. I’ve been wearing this since high school but you know, #habits.”
Simple Clutch
“I carry my Céline trio clutch in blue with me everywhere, but it’s seriously beat up from so much use. I’ve got my eye on The Row’s Leather cross-body bag—it’s simple and super chic. I don’t like in-your-face logo bags.”
Leather Jacket
“I live in my leather jacket, it’s always over my shoulders where ever I go.”
Blue Denim Jeans
“Always blue and slightly baggy. I’ve been loyal to Bassike jeans or vintage Levi's 505s for as long as I can remember.”
Minimal Jewellery
“If I wear any jewellery, it’s fine and minimal. Sarah & Sebastian and By Charlotte are my go-tos.”
Everything Ellery
“Basically anything from Ellery’s S/S 16 collection. I was at the show in Paris on an inspiration trip for TOMBOY Beauty, and the models walked to Leikeli47’s Miss America lyrics, ‘I dress like a boy, I talk like a girl’—it just validated all the brand development I’d been working on.”
Sneakers
“I am obsessed with the dressing-down culture. I wear sneakers every day, to the office, meetings and, events. I am going to milk it for as long as it is acceptable.”
