The TikTok Fashion Starter Pack: Why Is Everyone Wearing the Same Thing?

I, like a majority of the people who are currently trying to make the most of our newfound time indoors, have officially joined TikTok. Will I blame my boredom or general curiosity of the generation beneath me? Maybe two weeks ago I would have, but after fully becoming addicted to the app, I can officially say that I get it. If you have yet to download the app, I highly suggest you do. That is unless you don't enjoy laughing, connecting with friends, and staying up until 3 a.m. learning dances that rarely ever make your feed. Just me? Okay.

As I said, I am new to the app, but it took barely any time at all for me to realize that most of these TikTokers (also known as "creators") wear almost exactly the same thing in every video. At first, I thought I was just being served an algorithm of twinning teens simply because I kept watching the same dance videos over and over again, but as I expanded my TikTok knowledge, it became very clear: There is an unofficial uniform that these TikTok stars have been wearing since day one, and I was on a mission to dissect it trend by trend.

There is a definite vibe going on—from the oversize clothing to the obscene amounts of tie-dye. Today, I'm going to shop out the seven biggest fashion trends that are dominating the TikTok scene.

TikTokers legitimately love anything that's tie-dye. Be it an at-home tie-dying tutorial or a head-to-toe tie-dye sweatsuit, these creators have proven it's their go-to TikTok look.

When it comes to sweatshirts, the bigger, the better. Maybe it's because chill loungewear is the unofficial uniform of TikTokers everywhere, or maybe it's because big sweatshirts look cool while you're dancing, but either way, if you're considering buying one, size way up.

Speaking of athleisure, leggings are displayed in excess on the app. But not just any leggings—high-waisted ones. In my opinion, this is due to the fact that crop tops are popular with this audience, and we all know high-rise leggings look great with a crop top.
