Date, Marry, Avoid: The Fashion Items to Keep and Dump in 2018
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, but our attention is not focused on potential love interests of the human variety, there are fashion things making our hearts sing this year. With the newness of lust, of course, comes the inevitable falling out of love with certain other items. You guys are into your fashion, so you’ll already know better than most that trends, cult pieces and key accessories can come and go at lightning speed—even if we try to always encourage you to buy sensibly. If something’s en vogue one year, you can bet it’ll be losing favour in twelve months time (save for the leagues of the Chanel Classic Flap, that is).
Here at Who What Wear, it’s our job to keep you in the know with what’s worthy of your adoration, and when it's time to get real and cut ties for good, or at least keep some options on the backburner: let’s play Date, Marry, Avoid—the style edition…
DATE:
Mini Sunglasses
In the Noughties, it was on trend to wear your sunnies as huge as your face could cope, and bug-eyed fashion ladies roamed the streets. Well now, it's the total opposite: thin, Matrix-style sunglasses are in, as modelled by the A-list, and we're keen.
Hair Accessories
Hair accessories are the cutest way to give your look a little pizzazz from the head-up this year. Nothing is off limits, from pearl-adorned to rhinestoned. We're crushing on this Simone Rocha one.

Bumbags
Bumbags are the trend our mums always warned us would come full circle, and oh were they right. The options are so chic this year: from minimal leather to Instagrammable Gucci varieties. Lurve.
The New Cult Tee
Last year, the Gucci logo tee reached cult status (in fact, it's sticking around), but for 2018, there are so many more options. We're particularly enjoying Futr Studios' Matisse tee at the moment, which can be found on every Instagram feed within a five-scroll-radius. Oh, and it's more affordable too, so a cheap date.
Blue Anything and Everything
If 2017 belonged to red, this year is all about shades of blue. According to Pantone, it's the world's most popular "favourite" colour, and it was a big hit at the spring/summer 2018 shows. So our advice? If you're going to open your heart to any new colour this year, make it this.
MARRY
Check Coats
Okay, did any notice just how many check coats were at Copehagen Fashion Week? If the Scandi girls are coveting them so much, you know it's a trend that's rolling on. As for shoppable options, if we could marry this Topshop version, we so would.

Small, Decorative Bags
Some could argue that small, decorative bags are set to out-do shoppers this year. Sure, they're not as practical, but don't they make you happy? I mean, just one look at Shrimps' Antonia bag and serotonin-levels are soaring.
The Belt to Wear With All Outfits
Just recently, we laid out all the new ways your style stars are wearing their belts, meaning a handy, take-everywhere belt is heading straight to the top of our shopping list.
Decent Trouser Suits
If trawling through this year's street style photos has taught us anything, it's that you can't do wrong with a good trouser suit, so make like Camille Charrière and invest this year. This relationship is long term.

The Perfect Pair of Kitten Heels
Shoes can elevate an entire look, and where stilettos once took precedence, kitten heels have now come along and made our feet far happier. Therefore, investing in a good (and compliment-inducing) pair will be the smartest thing you can do in 2018. We love these satin bow versions from The Row below—too chic.
AVOID
Gardening-Friendly Shoes
We'll give it to them: "ugly" shoes made a sterling effort at a comeback last year. Yes, orthopedic-style shoes—or the ones you dad wears gardening–had everyone talking at one point, and for that, we give them their fair dues. They're difficult to pull of—by all means, go ahead—but maybe leave them to your wackiest friend and instead, if you're looking for comfort, try the chunky-soled biker boots on the feet of off-duty model types everywhere right now.
WTF Denim
What the heck happened to denim in 2017? We had, thong jeans, front-to-back zips (courtesy of Vetements) and suspender jeans to name a few. This year, we predict denim styles are going to take a big chill pill, and super frays and crazy add-ons will be replaced with more mature, straight-leg cuts.

Plastic Fantastic
With plastic-free initiatives happening all over the globe (watch Blue Planet once and you'll be obsessed), it's worth considering stylish alternatives despite the fact that this has been earmarked as a huge trend for spring 2018. For other waterproof options that are hopefully less detrimental to the environment, stick with a classic (or not-so-classic) fabric trench.
Cycling Shorts
We'll leave cycling shorts to the supermodels based out of LA. Instead, it feels far more relaxing to pair our jumper with a summery midi skirt. Haven't you heard? It's the combo to know all year round in the UK.
