Everyone on Pinterest Is Wearing This Colour—and It Makes You Look Rich
Ochre, cinnamon, rust, burnt orange and terracotta—there are many things that this season's biggest colour trend is, but easy to pin down is not one of them. Yet despite this indecisiveness, the fashion world has gone gaga for this earthy hue. With Pinterest saves for terracotta increasing by 95% over the past six months, it has become the cool girl's go-to shade for expensive-looking style. The reason lies in its versatility: it offers the same neutral sophistication of monochrome but also the ability to add a pop of colour—not as garish as fizzy pop orange but less boring than brown. Think of it as 2018's answer to the Giorgio Armani's 'greige'.
Terracotta made an early appearance at the A/W 17 shows, strutting its way down the celeb-lined runways of Mulberry and Prada. Fast forward six months to S/S 18 and Natacha Ramsay-Levi is sending a terracotta-coloured velvet suit down the catwalk for her first Chloé collection. Clearly this is not a one-hit wonder. Cult brands such as Jacquemus and Nanushka also deserve a portion of the praise, building their niche offerings around the sultry appeal of earthy tones—they captured the zeitgeist in a shade and are now reaping the rewards. Naturally, the high street also got in on the action, with a number of brands—most notably Mango—taking it upon themselves to become the arbiters of terracotta style. The result is a plethora of chic staples—from pinafore dresses to slingback shoes.
We've hunted down our favourite terracotta outfits from Insta's most stylish individuals. From summer-ready co-ords to retro polka dot jumpsuits—you're about to make your Pinterest feed very happy.
