When I was a kid, I loved going through all my mom's beauty products, so I can only imagine what it must have been like growing up with a parent who actually worked in the beauty industry. For Taylor Frankel, the co-founder of beauty brand Nudestix, beauty has always been a family business. "My mom is a beauty veteran, and I started modeling at the age of 16, so I was exposed to the industry and the products it had to offer at a young age," says the 25-year-old beauty guru. "Even though I loved beauty, I was always of the opinion that less was more. I could not fathom using 10 to 15 products in my routine every day. I wanted simplicity with maximum results."
Frankel saw the blank space in the industry and decided to turn it into an opportunity. She teamed up with her beauty-vet mom—who has developed products for brands like MAC and Cover FX—and younger sister Ally to launch Nudestix, a makeup collection that's as easy and fuss-free as it gets. Every item is in "crayon" form and can be used at home or just as easily on the go—aka a dream come true for Millennials and Gen Zers.
While makeup was Frankel's focus early on, she's also always had a thing for skincare. She loves a good facial and will never turn down a chemical peel. "I find them the most effective in renewing the skin for a healthier complexion," she says. (She's also a big proponent of staying hydrated!) So really it was only a matter of time before the Frankels used their makeup philosophy—simplistic, natural beauty for every skin type—to develop a skincare line, too. They collaborated with a leading dermatologist for some expertise in skin science, innovation, natural efficacy, and education, and they committed to using vegan-powered actives and eco-conscious packaging. And the packaging is good—it's sleek, fun, and definitely grabs your attention while scrolling on Instagram. It's just what you'd expect from a Gen-Z entrepreneur.
While I'm older than Frankel, I'm definitely not above turning to Gen Z for some beauty and skincare advice. (I mean, I still have to know which products the cool kids are using.) Luckily for me and you, Frankel is sharing her top beauty picks, from a dewy spray serum to self-tanning drops. Keep scrolling for her 14 must-haves.
"I have a lot of hair, but it's quite fine. I love my silk scrunchies because they're super gentle and delicate on the hair to ensure zero breakage or damage."
"I use Amandine's dewy serum after my moisturizer and right before my makeup for an added glow. I love it because it gives the shine of an oil, but it's super lightweight on the skin."
"I geek out on exfoliation! Exfoliation is a key component of your skincare routine. As sebum and dead skin cells build up, it is so important to renew and slough away dirt and debris to reveal healthier, smoother, and more glowy skin. The Lemon-Aid Detox and Glow Micro Peel is a gentle chemical peel activated by the peeling action of papain enzymes. It removes dead skin cells and deeply cleanses the pores."
"This is an olive oil–based cleanser that cleanses the skin and emulsifies makeup and debris. I love that it leaves the skin feeling clean, never stripped or dehydrated."
"Your dream moisturizer! Our Nudeskin moisturizer is the perfect texture and consistency that deeply hydrates while feeling super lightweight on the skin. It is your daily moisturizer, nighttime mask, and can be used as a makeup primer as well. I love to lather this on at night for a hydrating sleeping mask. Your skin will thank you in the morning!"
"A perfect collaboration. I love using this product on damp hair after the shower. It works as an amazing detangler and leave-in conditioner. It's amazing for my bleached hair and helps to define my curls. Not to mention it smells like a dream."
"As we get into the winter months, I'm slowly seeing my skin shrivel and dry up! I love this oil because it instantly hydrates and gives my skin a glow as if I spent the day in the sun."
"Sunscreen is so key! If you're reading this, this is a PSA that you should be wearing sunscreen every single day. I love this sun 'serum' because it's super light, and my makeup applies beautifully on top without pilling."
"My favorite oil ever! I typically use this oil on damp or dry hair, exclusively on the ends. It seals my ends for a glossy, salon-like finish."
"I love this sunscreen for those intense beach days. I typically use this SPF if I'm not wearing any makeup that day."
"I don't use tanning drops often, but when I do, I use the Glow Organic drops. I typically mix these in with an oil or serum and apply on my face, neck, and chest. I love these drops because they don't break me out, and they give me such a natural tan (never orange)."
"When I feel like my skin needs a deep clean, I use this tool with my gentle hydra-gel face cleanser."
"If you're constantly losing your tools, you want this! It's a 5-piece magnetized tool with a rose-quartz roller, derma roller, tweezer, eye-ball roller, and comedone extractor! Perfect for an at-home facial."
"Obsessed with my DedCool fragrances. They're all unisex, clean, vegan, and nontoxic. They're divine."
