5 Swim Trends Who What Wear Editors Are Here For (and 3 They're Not)
Just like with anything else in your wardrobe, when it comes to a specific piece of clothing you have the option to go the classic route or to take the path of trying a new trend. Take swimwear, for instance: You may own a collection of timeless one-pieces in your closet or, instead, each year you may scour the web and social media to find out what the latest silhouettes, patterns, details, and more are. If you fall into the latter bucket then you're likely on the hunt for your summer 2019 swimwear trend of choice. Still deciding? Us too. That's why we took an in-office poll of our editors to see which swim trends they're all about right now and which ones they're saying no to for 2019.
Ahead, see which five swim trends the Who What Wear team has unanimously given its stamp of approval to and which three they're skipping out on—at least for now.
Trend We're Here For: Animal Print
Pythons, cheetahs, and zebras—oh my! There are so many swimsuits swathed in animal prints this summer, why not add one to your personal collection?
Trend We're Here For: Square-Neck Top
The majority of one-pieces and bikinis come in sweetheart or rounded necklines, which is what makes a square silhouette all the more unique and fun to wear.
Bottoms ($20)
Bottoms ($88)
Trend We're Here For: Underwire Bra Cup
Just because you're wearing a swimsuit doesn't mean you suddenly don't need the regular support you get from a bra; enter the underwire cup option. Flattering, comfortable, and consistently smart option.
Trend We're Here For: Ribbed Material
Sometimes a subtle detail in fabrication can make a swimsuit look way more expensive; such is the case with ribbing.
Bottoms ($105)
Trend We're Here For: Belted
Belts are, in general, an underrated accessory, which is why adding them to a swimsuit is a novel idea.
+ Bottoms ($78)
Trend We're Not Here For: Super High-Cut Legs
Although we love a leg-lengthening cut on just about anything, sometimes this silhouette can come across as slightly too '80s-inspired.
Trend We're Not Here For: Loincloth
This swimwear trend may be endorsed by EmRata, but it creeps a little too closely into the wardrobe malfunction zone, and we'd rather play it safe this summer.
Trend We're Not Here For: Cutouts
Though we may come around to the cutout trend in future years, right now we're skipping this look and opting for silhouettes and details that feel slightly fresher.
Up Next: The swim trends that are decidedly out for 2019.
