7 Random Trends That Are Definitely a Thing Right Now
With the highly anticipated summer season officially in full swing, there’s no better time than the present to take inventory of the trends that actually that came to fruition this time around—not just the ones that ended up disappearing. And as we saw with spring, in addition to (or should I say, in spite of) what we saw on the S/S 20 runways, this quarter again brings with it a fresh crop of more "random” must-have items that are undeniably in.
The seven pieces you’re about to find below kind of popped up out of nowhere and quickly made their way onto our Instagram feed in droves. From the must-have tops of the season to the standout color everyone is wearing, just keep scrolling to see them all in action, read a little about each, and shop my picks for all of them, just in case you don’t already have your favorite hanging in your closet.
1. Camp Shirts
Aka, short-sleeve, collared button-downs in both prints and solids.
They look as good tucked into pants as they do worn casually over a swimsuit.
Shop:
2. Tennis Skirts
Tennis-skirt fever is so real even I recently purchased one despite having no plans of actually playing tennis in the near future.
The only problem is that deciding between pleats and a straight cut feels nearly impossible.
Shop:
3. Bold Bucket Hats
When it comes to bucket hats for summer, forget your beiges, blacks, and whites.
Opt for something bright, floral, or a mix of both.
Shop:
4. Grandma Sweaters
This can mean something that looks like your grandma would wear it or something she could have made you as a gift.
When shopping, look for prints, crochet, and/or embroidery.
Shop:
5. Slip Dresses
In the dress category, slips seem to have been on the back burner for a while now, but this season they're back and better than ever.
Did I mention they're the ideal fuss-free frock for beating the heat?
Shop:
6. Pale Yellow (Anything)
Curious what the standout color of summer is? Look no further than pale yellow—in any form.
The best part is the buttery hue goes great with anything from other bright shades to your favorite white shirt and blue jeans.
Shop:
7. Scarf Tops
Nothing to wear? Take an old (or new) printed, square scarf and fashion a top out of it.
Trust me—you won't regret it.

Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here at Who What Wear, and she is currently Editor-at-Large. It was a less expected route, seeing as she was graduating from business school at USC when this all began, but it has turned out to be the best one for her. Fast-forward to 2024, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was an intern starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to classic pieces and neutral basics but will always make an exception for something colorful, printed, or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a good party is dressing up for one. On weekdays, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious for dinner and trying to force her husband to watch Summer House.
