Summer Trends: What The WWW Team Has Really Bought Into
At Who What Wear, we do a lot of talking about shopping for clothes and the new pieces that we've spotted on this celebrity and that street style star. But when it comes down to it, what do the editors actually buy into out of this season's trends? We spoke to the WWW team to find out which items they'd actually bought into this summer and why. Keep scrolling to see what the editors of Who What Wear have bought this summer and where to buy the pieces.
The culottes:
"I've been a big fan of this shape ever since it started making a comeback a few seasons ago—they're perfect for my curvy-but-petite frame, and so I needed a summer upgrade."
The shirtdress:
"There's a reason why these Lisa Marie Fernandez shirtdresses a.) keep selling out and b.) are being reintroduced in new colourways—they're so easy to wear, flattering and as good on holiday as they are for a day at the office."
The cropped flares:
"I'm a total jean-a-phobic, but there's something really amazing about these M.i.h jeans. Even though a cropped flare can stunt your legs, the clever seams that are swerved around to the front elongate legs—and the light blue wash is very summery."
The mid-heel sandal:
"When Maryam Nassir Zadeh's shoes were finally stocked in the UK, I literally jumped for joy—I'd been wanting a pair of these wear-everywhere sandals for ages! The scarlet suede really amps up what's essentially a pair of everyday shoes."
The unexpected sleeves + gingham:
"I'm a big fan of Isa Arfen and the way designer Serafina Sama can make statement pieces like this so easy to wear—it's just the right amount of peekaboo and bonkers to be fun but infinitely wearable."
The cropped jumpsuit:
"I'll confess that my jumpsuit addiction has probably got a little out of hand, as I have five in my wardrobe right now. My excuse is that I need one for different situations. This black one from Zara is ideal for those warm summer nights out, either on holiday or in the UK, and it combines my other summer trend love—the cold shoulder."
The off-the-shoulder top:
"This is one item I imagine nearly everyone has bought, and there's good reason for that. It covers the areas we might all feel a little self conscious about and shows off your clavicles. Even better with a tan."
The slip dress:
"The '90s called me and I answered. This slip dress is what I plan on wearing for the whole of the summer, either with a plain grey t-shirt underneath and some Stan Smiths or on holiday thrown over my bikini with a pair of chunky sandals."
The ugly sandal:
"I know that these look a little orthopedic. However, they look seriously cute on and are really comfy. A decent pedi is in order to avoid the rambler look, but if you want to go 'full fashion,' wear with a pair of sparkly socks."
The pyjama top:
"Perhaps one of the easiest looks to wear this season is the pyjama top. This is effortless style and works with either culottes or jeans. If friends ask you if you forgot to get dressed this morning, just say yes and smugly know that you're the most stylish person in the room."
The mini bag:
"I just had to. This is one of those classic buys you know you'll get so much wear out of. And, I mean… Gucci."
The scarf:
"A scarf is a great way to zhuzh up your look without spending too much. I like to mix it up and wear this one with a contrast print—the bolder the better."
The statement trousers:
"One statement piece can transform your wardrobe—and these silver Marant trousers sure are a statement. I wear them with a simple black tee. P.S. I got them for my first week in this job!"
The ribbon heels:
"I saw these on Instagram—as you do—and couldn't resist. Red + ribbons = dreamy."
The (Maxi) Slip Dress:
"I love slip dresses, I'm still a '90s girl at heart, and I just love the back of this Zara dress."
The pom pom sandals:
"Sadly I don't have the budget for Rihanna's cult Aquazzura pom-pom sandals, but I have bought into the trend with these Boden ones. I buy a pair of sandals every summer, so I am willing to go for the of-the-moment style without thinking about whether I'll love them next summer."
The new floral dress:
"For an upcoming English country wedding, I decided to dress on-theme in sunny, Laura Ashley–esque florals. This Reformation dress can also be dressed down with sandals, so it doubles as a holiday purchase too."
The slogan jumper:
"If you have to wear knitwear in June, I am a firm believer that it should be as cheery as possible to compensate. This glittery Bella Freud lightweight knit has proved perfect for desk-to-dinner dressing."
The espadrilles:
"I have a weakness for silly emoji-fied accessories, and these embroidered espadrilles by buzzed-about label Soludos are a fun, but very comfortable, option for the beach."
The mismatched earrings:
"When it comes to jewellery, I tend to wear the same pieces I have had for years every day, and rarely experiment with the costume variety. But I've dipped my toes into the statement earring trend with these Finery half moon earrings, which are fun without having to go as far as Kirsten Dunst at the CFDAs with orchids in my ears."
