Parisians Rely On This Anti-Trend Staple Year Round—4 Ways to Wear It In 2024
Call it a cliché but striped jumpers have become the cornerstone of a French woman's wardrobe and I've now witnessed the extent to which they're worn first-hand. My landlord is a chic French woman and she often dons a lightweight striped knit with denim dungarees and a swipe of rouge. Women are seen across the length and breadth of Paris in variations of a striped jumper — whether it's an off-white with navy, blue with cream, or red and ecru. Like the croissant or shall I shall chocolatine, there's even a debate on the origin of this classic style.
Designers have taken note of the popularity of striped jumpers, following in the footsteps of Toteme's bestselling striped sweater of four years. There are many styles from which to take your pick — from mock necklines to scoop neck and even cardigans worn as button-ups.
While it may be a fashion stereotype, it serves us well for casual looks and beyond. Keep reading for the ways to style striped jumpers this winter, the French way.
1. Mock Neck Jumper + Leather Skirt + Ankle Boots
Style Notes: Stripes and leather is a failsafe combination. It elevates this basic piece to new heights.

It's called the French tuck for good reason. Fold the length into the waistband of the leather skirt.
It's not very often that this happens but I think I like all of Savette's bags at the moment.
An emboldened accessory.
The high street is doing winter boots so well this year. This style is competitively priced and refined.
2. Buttoned Cardigan + Pleated Mini Skirt + Knee High Boots
Style Notes: I love wearing cardigans as a jumper. This way the buttons feel like an additional feature.

I've had a pair of drop hoops from & Other Stories for three years now and you wouldn't know they're high-street.

The Cyme bag is wonderfully oversized. It can be worn as pictured or with the sides inverted - creating a unique, rounded silhouette.
Russell and Bromley have created a sleek iteration of 2024s most loved boot style—the pointed toe.
3. Breton Striped Jumper + Leather Jacket + Relaxed Jeans
Style Notes: This look is a prime example of a classic way to clash prints as animal print and stripes fit in the neutral territory. This is a combination you'll see many French women wear.

I'm very much enjoying Tove's foray into leather outerwear. The belted waist feature and the slight crop is exquisite
Jeans comprising tencel and from a conscious brand? I may just be extending my two-piece denim collection in 2024.
You may be inclined to style striped with block colourways but I love clashing timeless patterns with animal print.
4. Striped Turtleneck Jumper + White Maxi Skirt + Ankle Boots
Style Notes: This Toteme knit is much loved far and wide across the globe. My favourite way to style it is with neutralising basics and pops of gold (as seen on the accessories).

COS' woollen pieces are worth noting. I often find the quality outstanding.
New in at Balzac are the Bottines boots with exposed stitching and a subtle tortoiseshell heel.
Otiumberg has spotlighted the moonstone instead of the pearl and it brings a new flavour.
