I Become Obsessed With Stevie Nicks' Style Every Winter, Here's Why
Days are getting shorter, the temps are dropping, and suddenly I’ve found myself trawling Pinterest in search of photos of Stevie Nicks… I know it may at first sound unrelated, but hear me out. No matter how many years go by, I inevitably find myself drawn back to the Fleetwood Mac star’s style every single winter. I’m not really sure when the habit started, and I don’t know why—but thus far, replicating her looks in the wintertime hasn’t let me down yet. Sure, you could probably attribute it to my Colorado upbringing with winters spent in snowy mountain towns, but most of the time, my personal style is actually far less bohemian than the free spirited singer’s.
So what exactly is it about her outfits that keep me inspired all winter long? I think I’ve finally figured it out: She’s a master of layering and for someone who despises being cold, that’s a big plus. Every winter, I get into a bit of a rut, feeling like the cold weather prevents me from being my “true self” who wants to wear dresses and linen all year long… but, with a few heavy coats and scarf or two, my ideal style can be winter-fied. And Stevie Nicks’s elaborate outfits prove it.
I'll admit, some of her looks may be a bit over-the-top for everyday wear; but she’s giving me a reason (and a way) to wear a maxi dress in the dead of winter, so I’m running with it. From beaded shawls, to giant fur coats, to embroidered pashminas, there’s no layering piece Nicks hasn’t worn. In fact, I’d argue that if anything, she’s made a strong case that the more layers the better. Which, on the coldest of days, is music to my ears (get it?). Keep scrolling for further proof that the singer is a layering genius, and shop my favourite Stevie Nicks-inspired winter wardrobe items below.
If it's too cold for your trusty sweater dress, why not add pants and scarf to the look?
Just try and tell me she looks cold with this mink scarf on.
For days when it's not that cold out, just add a silky cape.
Not sure I could pull off the top hat, but I'm definitely here for the velvet blazer.
A massive scarf is basically just a blanket you can wear in public.
The ideal winter dress: Black, long sleeves, and turtleneck.
I know it's called the Joplin Jacket, but I think Nicks would like it too.
What could be better than a shearling coat in the It colour of 2018.
I don't know about you, but I'm about to be copying these looks all winter long.
