This Statement Street Style Trend Has Hit the Fashion Mainstream
We all love a good statement dress, pair of statement shoes or statement coat, but a statement jumper? That's not something we usually consider for our day-to-day wardrobe, however, it's a trend that has been widely embraced by the fashion crowd this year. No longer content to be labelled as a "basic," the humble knit has now stolen the spotlight with vibrant prints, sculptural silhouettes and frou-frou trims.
These personality-packed pieces might command attention, but they are unexpectedly versatile. They're ideal for livening-up your favourite jeans and sneakers combo, but they will also pack a punch when styled-up with a pleated midi or floral frock. Play your cards right, and these woollen showstoppers will last for many seasons to come.
My favourite jumper trend this year has to be the Fair Isle style, which is an ideal balance of statement-making and classic. Amp yours up with bright colourways and throw over your favourite summer dress à la Pernille Rosenkilde. Feather trim is also an undeniably fun way to work the trend and will be a godsend on a cold Friday night out with friends—just add a slip skirt or printed trousers. Need more inspo? Style Notes: Statement knits don't have to be all about the print. This bib-detail Zara buy has just the right amount of prairie-inspired vibes and looks the part when paired with a pleated checked skirt.

Style Notes: Okay, this Chanel jumper is the dream, and we love how this showgoer has styled it with a casual pair of flared jeans and sneakers. Get the look with MSGM's monochromatic knit and Topshop's Jamie jeans.

Style Notes: Everyone went crazy for Alexa Chung's patchwork jumper when she posted it on her Insta feed a few months ago. We'll be taking cues from this cool-girl outfit and styling our cable knits with a black pleated skirt and strappy heels.

Style Notes: Scandi girls know how to rock a statement jumper, and the above print-clashing approach is a favourite of Pernille Rosenkilde and Emili Sindlev. The key is to keep both the jumper and dress within similar colour spectrums.

Style Notes: We are a little feather-obsessed this year, so Lena Farl's über-glam getup caught our eye immediately. Her jumper might be unprinted, but it packs no less of a punch. Simply add some interest with a pair of leopard-print trousers and colour-pop shoes.
