I've Told Everyone I Know to Buy This One Item for Spring—3 Ways I'm Wearing It
So Versatile is a seasonal column where associate fashion editor Sierra Mayhew selects one item she’s recommending to everyone this season because you can wear it in so many ways. Think something timeless, chic, and flattering for all ages and body types. Plus, you’ll walk away with three effortless ways to wear it.
I am thrilled to welcome you to the first installment of this brand-new series So Versatile. As you know, at Who What Wear, we're all about wardrobe staples. And while I love collecting numerous pieces in my closet that can be worn in many ways, I feel like every season, there's that one standout piece that I insist every human adds to their wardrobe. It's that one purchase that has the ability to add something special to every outfit that you wear.
This season, I demand that everyone has a classic trench coat hanging in their closet. I had been holding on to a few trendier styles for a while, but swapping them out for the forever-classic Everlane iteration was such a great decision. The power of the trench is next-level. It feels elevated, mysterious, and exclusive. This lightweight coat will have a serious impact on your personal style this season. See the three ways I'll be wearing it this spring, and shop what I consider to be the best trench coats on the market right now.
That's So Versatile
Let's chat a bit more about why I love this trench coat so much. The fabric is super soft, and there isn't any weird lining on the inside, which is my complaint about a few of the trenches that I own. I love the ruching that surrounds the collar and the tie-belt that makes the once-masculine piece have a bit more of a feminine touch. The tortoise buttons make for the perfect embellishments on the front. So yeah, after seeing it in person, I told everyone I know they need to buy this—you're next.
3 Ways I'm Wearing The Trench
So good for the workplace, the perfect trench coat will always tag along with you when your agenda includes something professional, whether that means you're going to the office, working from a coffee shop, or attending a networking event.
Shop the look:
I'm obsessed with wide-leg pants right now, and I never want to take this pair off.
The funky collar is the perfect pop under any outerwear or knitwear you choose to layer it with.
Adding open-toed sandals helped me say hello to spring and spice up this look.
Weekends in warm weather require a fun dress, but sometimes wearing just that doesn't cut it. The right layering always makes something feel elevated, so I loved being able to break out this summer dress a bit early when I topped it off with the trench coat.
Shop the look:
You'll never wonder what jacket to wear again with that favorite dress of yours.
I loved bringing out the little sprinkles of red in the dress I wore with these shoes.
Blue was also involved, and I emphasized it by completing my look with a mini bag.
Oversize sunglasses have made me feel chic AF lately. I think you need a pair of your own.
A stark contrast to the above look, but casual days also deserve to be just as polished as days that make you want to dress up. I'll be running errands on the weekend in this exact outfit combination, and you should too.
Shop the look:
Your summer wardrobe will thank you when you add a loose pair of jeans.

The leather trench coat is having such a moment right now.
