How One Fashion Editor Takes On Spring's Biggest Trends
Since starting to work from home, I’ve been forced to take a long, hard look at what I have in my wardrobe. The verdict is in: I own way too many white button-down shirts. Since making this realization, I’ve been on the hunt to find some updated (but still kind of classic-feeling) pieces my wardrobe needs, specifically ones that will last me well beyond this season. As always, I hit up my colleagues at Who What Wear to help me hone in on exactly what I should be shopping, for spring trends and otherwise.
Kristen Nichols, the managing editor here at Who What Wear, has the type of sartorial sensibility I'm always complimenting. Her forever-classic style is polished, sleek, and always a touch trendy. I knew she was the girl for my hunt to find key wardrobe pieces (Levi's and basics included), and naturally, she delivered. Here are the three outfit formulas she sent me that have become her, and now my, favorite spring looks.
SHORTS + BLAZER + COLLARED SWEATER
I’ve never been much of a shorts girl, but when Kristen sent me this white-on-white outfit as one of her key spring looks, she had me swayed. I love the way she switches up the monochromatic blazer-and-shorts pairing with a beige collared sweater (a major trending item this season) and a pair of gray sneakers. In my opinion, the high-waisted shorts truly make this look, so the under-$100 pair will be in my wardrobe in three to five business days.
PADDED TANK + STRAIGHT-LEG JEANS
Another major trending style this season? Padded-shoulder tank tops and T-shirts. I’ve had a top similar to this one in my cart for a few weeks now, but I’ve been debating if I should take a chance on it or not. Kristen, of course, made up my mind when she showed me how she styled it with these dark-wash straight-leg jeans. With some gold jewelry (a favorite accessory of mine) and a pair of heeled mules, this outfit has the perfect mix of on-trend pieces and classic style.
WIDE-LEG JEANS + KNIT-CARDIGAN SET
Unless you’ve taken a really long break from social media, you know how insanely popular knit sets are right now in the fashion space. Kristen styled hers with a pair of black wide-leg jeans from Levi’s, creating a transitional look I’ll be re-creating on any random chilly days that come my way.
Nayiri is Who What Wear's senior fashion editor for branded content and based in her hometown, Los Angeles. It all began in 2014 when she landed an internship at the company and never looked back. While she does love writing her fair share of fashion stories, her heart really belongs in the brainstorm room, where she has fun strategizing different ways to create content with our fashion partners so that you engage with the brands you know and love. Her style tends to be more classic (she loves a good black-and-white look with gold accessories), and white pumps are kind of her thing. If she had to pick one person's wardrobe to raid, it would be Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's, and she also has a major obsession with interior design. She's a mom to a 1-year-old baby girl named Sophie, and she fully plans on training her to spot fashion trends by the time she's 10. That's all!
