And Now, the Skinny-Jean Trend Your Ankle Boots Have Been Waiting For

If you thought skinny jeans were way too classic to be deemed trendy, well, you thought wrong. Sure, the staple denim has been around for decades at this point (and doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon), but that doesn't mean designers are done dreaming up new ways to make them feel fresh. Case in point: The skinny-jean trend I've just spotted on a few of my favorite fashion influencers—not to mention Hailey Bieber.

Skinny jeans with split hems at the side of the ankle have been quietly popping up from cool-girl brands like Cotton Citizen, whose High Split Jeans are on their way to earning cult status; Reformation; and Ganni. It's a subtle detail, but the side splits are what really make these skinny jeans stand out. For one, they add a bit of flare around the ankle, making them the ideal denim fit to style with ankle boots. As we've pointed out before, skinny jeans tend to bunch around the ankles, making it awkward when pairing them with shorter boot styles, so the flared hem on this trend is truly genius. But it's not only ankle boots that they play well with. Strappy heels, kitten heels, and mules all look excellent with the denim. Or you could follow Bieber's lead and style them with flat sneakers.

Continue on to see how the split-hem skinny-jean trend is styled on Instagram, and shop the pairs we love.
