This 54-Year-Old French Woman Has the Most Stylish Instagram

Who What Wear fans know that we love turning the spotlight on stylish older women in fashion, and thanks to Vogue, we found our latest muse: 54-year-old Sophie Fontanel, a French writer and fashion columnist for Parisian publication L'Obs.

With one peek at her Instagram, you can see that she has style in spades. In her interview with the magazine, she revealed that 80% of her wardrobe is vintage and that her style is meant to convey "softness, gentleness, sense of humor, [and] wittiness" rather than sex appeal.

She also has some wise words about how you can learn to dress well—and it has nothing to do with buying new clothes. "If you want to be well dressed, you have to learn by watching old movies, by going to the museum, and by surfing on the internet," she told Vogue. "You have to read good books, to read poetry. It's when you put nice things into your soul that you understand how to dress well." Amen to that.

Associate Director, Fashion News

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
