And Now, the One Dress Trend I Already Know Will Define Fall Fashion
Slip dresses have stood the test of time and solidified themselves as true timeless wardrobe staples. While the trendiness of slip dresses ebbs and flows like the fashion cycle itself, for fall 2022, there isn't a more on-trend piece than the slip dress—just one part of the elevated basics renaissance that is front and center in the F/W 22 collections.
While we're seeing many brands reintroduce classic silhouettes designed from silky satin, there are also many updates to the dresses worth noting for fall. Despite being a closet basic, one of the interesting things about the dresses is how not basic many of them are. From heavily ornamented styles with sequins and embellishments at Bottega Veneta to completely sheer pastel pieces with exposed lingerie at Fendi to dramatic floor-sweeping designs at Saint Laurent. Ahead, more on the slip dress trend that will define fall fashion.
Satin Slip Dresses
If you're going the classic route, implement some directional styling by tying a sweater in another shade around your waist. We saw this everywhere on the F/W 22 runways (whether styled with a slip dress or not), and the tied-sweater trend is also set to be big this fall.
Lace-Trimmed Slip Dresses
The pretty, lace-trimmed slip dresses spotted in the F/W 22 collections feel reminiscent of the designs from Phoebe Philo's designs at Celine. If you're among the many Philophiles out there, this is the piece to add to your closet this fall.
Maxi Slip Dresses
Dramatic, sweeping hemlines took over the runways for fall, so you can expect to see maxi lengths across the board this season. Among the key pieces to buy: long slip dresses.
Embellished Slip Dresses
As I mentioned, slip dresses are going far beyond your ordinary basics. Case in point? This dress at Bottega Veneta which incorporates sequins, floral embellishments, lace, and multiple layers.
Sheer Slip Dresses
Fashion is going totally transparent for fall and Fendi is just one of many brands embracing the trend. While there are practically no limits on how to wear sheer pieces right now, see-through slip dresses feel particularly fresh.
