Shoppers Are Spending $4.2 Billion on the Shoes You Wore in the '90s
By now, it should come as no surprise that the market for sneakers is showing zero signs of slowing down, thanks, in part, to the ever-popular athleisure trend. And while classics such as Nike, Adidas, and Vans were among the best-selling styles last year (which will surely be the case this year, as well), an unexpected contender is gaining a foothold in the industry.
As Footwear News reports, Skechers's fourth-quarter sales exceeded market watchers’ forecasts by $90 million. These higher-than-expected numbers for Q4 are a result of an increased interest in the children's light-up sneakers, as well Skechers' ability to tap well-known and buzzworthy ambassadors, most recently partnering with singer Camila Cabello.
The brand also reported sales of $4.2 billion for last year, which Robert Greenberg, Skechers chief executive officer, says was a first in the sneaker maker's 25-year-history. And if the past is any indication of the future, we're expecting these classic '90s shoes to make an even bigger comeback this year. Stay tuned! Now, scroll down to shop a few of our favorite sneaker styles from the classic brand.
