Yep, Serena Williams Just Wore Sneakers to the Met Gala

The day has finally come. The 2019 Met Gala has arrived, and the red carpet is already proving to be second to none. While Lady Gaga put on quite a show with a slew of different outfit reveals, we couldn't ignore Serena Williams's stunning Versace dress, which she wore with Off-White x Nike sneakers—yes, sneakers. Who cares if this is the most formal event of the year? You still have the right to be comfortable, no?

Williams fans will know this is not the first time she's worn sneakers to a fancy event. In fact, she wore sneakers at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding reception. This year, Williams is serving as one of Anna Wintour's co-hosts for the Met Gala, so her sneaker choice is all the more daring—but of course, she pulled it off with aplomb. Scroll down to see how Serena Williams styled Off-White x Nike sneakers on the 2019 Met Gala red carpet.

Associate Director, Fashion News

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
