Selena Gomez Says She Always Avoids This Style Mistake

It's no secret that we're huge admirers of Selena Gomez's style. For starters, we marvel at the way she can make a '90s outfit look cool and are envious of the way she compiles airport looks like a pro. So what's her secret? In a new interview with Vogue, the Louis Vuitton campaign girl revealed her style strategy and the one faux pas she makes sure to avoid: looking like she's trying too hard.

“I like to find things that are unconventional and make them look classic,” Gomez told Vogue, “because if I’m forcing something, you can just tell.” Her stylist, Kate Young, explained how Gomez manages to put her personal stamp on everything she wears. “Vuitton especially can be tricky—it’s futuristic; it has straps all over it," Young told Vogue. "But Selena’s version looks young and cool and less conceptual. She makes fashion suit her demeanor.” So there you have it: Don't force a look and always make sure to put your own spin on everything you wear—et voilà: You're on your way to Gomez-worthy style.

Associate Director, Fashion News

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
