Sarah Michelle Gellar's Affirmation Trick Is Something We Could All Use
This is Doing Well, a series where we'll get a peek into the wellness routines of our favorite celebrities, athletes, social media personalities, entrepreneurs, and more. Think of it as a Proust Questionnaire—wellness style. Below, see what they have to say about their favorite workouts, self-care rituals, wellness goals, affirmations or mottos, and more. Maybe you'll find some inspiration for your own routine.
For any person who lived through the '90s and early aughts, you know that Sarah Michelle Gellar was the total queen of that era. I mean, come on, can we talk about her iconic roles? The woman has been in TV shows and movies that are so beloved in pop culture. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cruel Intentions, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scooby-Doo… the list can go on and on.
And she's been even busier these days, too. She's been married to Freddie Prinze Jr. since 2002 and is a mom to two children. And while she's continued acting, Gellar has also branched out to other ventures, like founding Foodstirs, a company that sells baking kits, and writing a cookbook, Stirring Up Fun with Food. She's also teaming up with Yellow Tail this summer to launch Pure Bright, the wine brand's collection of low-calorie and low-alcohol wines. And if you don't follow her on Instagram, you really should. Her posts are always fun and witty, with a little bit of nostalgia in the mix.
Gellar shared her wellness routine with us—and it's just as refreshing, honest, and real as you'd expect. Take a look below.
The first thing I do when I wake up is: Hit snooze on my alarm probably and then make coffee.
My go-to meal before work is: My favorite thing is to have a green juice. I go every weekend to the farmers market and I get fresh kale, spinach, celery, and lettuces and I blend it all together. That's my favorite thing before I work out.
My favorite workout is: Let's see, I love PlateFit and the feeling of being on a Power Plate. I love how quickly I can work out and get such a great exercise, I love Pilates because it centers me and it also strengthens my body, but I also love being outside, so swimming, hiking, anything like that is great as well.
Something that always puts me in a good mood: A hug from my children, or even just a lick from my dogs.
My favorite feel-good Instagram accounts to follow: Honestly, it's probably just my friends and their kids. I try to limit as much time as I can on social media so that I'm much more present in my everyday life, but I do like to get a chance to see some of my friends that I don't get to see all the time.
My beauty/self-care must-haves: It's probably sleep because I need it and I'm very cranky without it. My beauty essential is definitely sunscreen.
My favorite self-care ritual is: It's at the end of the day when I finally get some time to myself is to relax and have a really nice glass of wine like a Pure Bright Pinot Grigio, feel good about myself, and enjoy the rest of my evening.
The one thing I do to wind down is: Honestly, my favorite indulgence is getting into my bubble bath with a really good book and a glass of Yellow Tail Pure Bright Pinot Grigio. That to me is the height of decadence.
My ideal chill at home outfit is: Anything with elastic!
My favorite thing about myself is: Let's see. I think my favorite thing about myself is being a mom, and the love that I feel and the experience of motherhood are unparallel to anything else I've ever experienced.
The one wellness goal I want to accomplish this year: I would really like to figure out how to get a few more hours in my day. So if anyone has any tips on that one, please reach out!
An affirmation/motto I live by: I try to add "for now" to the end of every sentence. So, you know, "This is a really hard time for now" or "I'm not getting enough sleep for now," because I want to remind myself that we can change our circumstances.
